Job description

Job Summary:

Responsible for meeting departmental safety, quality, cost, and delivery goals. Objectives are met through training, motivating, and managing employees in a team-oriented production environment where Lean Manufacturing Principles, 8D’s, and continuous improvement are the norm. Work involves a thorough understanding of plant operations, company policies, practices, and procedures, and the ability to resolve conflicts/issues through collaborative team efforts.

Essential Functions:

• Develops a production/manpower plan based on production forecasts. Develops and/or assists in the development and implementation of lean manufacturing practices such as 5S, use of poka-yoke, visual management, material flow, etc. Supports the development of associates to diagnose equipment malfunctions to the root cause level and ensure corrective actions are completed to eliminate repetitive failures. Maintains time and production records and keeps management informed of progress, developments, and pending problems. Responds to customer concerns and assures production targets are met by making adjustments to the production schedule, equipment, and/or processes as appropriate.

• Ensures training and development of associates, leading to a highly motivated and successful team achieving business goals and objectives. Encourages associate involvement through participation in improvement activities, Kaizen events, suggestion systems, and open communications. Responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to established safety practices, as well as actively participating in safety committee meetings. Regularly educates all employees in safe work practices and ensures that they understand their role in applying safe practices and maintaining housekeeping requirements.

• Responsible for understanding company policies, practices, and procedures, and for developing employees by coaching, counseling, and disciplining in accordance with such policies, practices, and procedures. Responsible for writing timely, objective performance reviews and communicating results in one-on-one meetings in a timely fashion. Develops, implements, and participates in work improvement plans for employees as appropriate, in accordance with established company practices and procedures.

• Consistently works on continuous improvement processes, including recommending measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality while operating within assigned budget. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency and quality of facility, equipment, processes, or worker performance standards.

• Contributes to the team effort by working in a collaborative manner to perform special projects and assignments that support the company’s overall goals and business objectives. Interfaces with customers, engineers, and management to support the company’s goals and objectives. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, etc.

• All employees are responsible for having an awareness and understanding of Rotorion North America’s commitment to ISO 14001.

• Supervisors are responsible for conducting operation-specific training, including relevant environmental and safety information.

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

• 3–5 years of experience as a Supervisor in a manufacturing environment.

Specific Skills:

• Must be familiar with IATF 16949 and/or ISO 14001 requirements.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office computer software applications.

• Knowledge of Statistical Process Control.

• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, both oral and written.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

• Excellent interpersonal skills to train, motivate, and lead employees.

• Must be able to work any shifts and/or flexible hours.

• High level of energy and enthusiasm.

• Strong desire to work in a team-oriented environment.

• Proven supervision capabilities.

• Experience with high-volume automotive supply requirements.

• Familiar with Tier I and/or Tier II automotive supplier specifications.

• SAP R/3 enterprise system.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to walk/move about a 500,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility: 100% of the time.

• Must be able to stand/walk/move about specific work area: 90% of the time.

• Must be able to bend/reach/twist/stoop: 70% of the time.

• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. on a frequent basis: 40% of the time.

• Must be able to lift over 40 lbs. on an infrequent basis: 15% of the time.

• Must be able to sit at a workstation: 0% of the time.

• Must be able to work and operate a computer terminal: 80% of the time.

• Vision is required to analyze and process work, and to work on computer terminals/machine centers, etc.

• Hearing is essential for safety reasons and to communicate with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, suppliers, and customers via conversation, group meetings, and/or phone conferences.

• Must be able to wear a painting suit and/or respirator.

• Must be able to work with paints/solvents/cleaners.

• Must be able to work any shift as required, including overtime as needed.
