Job Description:
Summary:
The Data & Insights Analyst II serves as an analytic partner to an assigned department, service line, or operational area. The position works with leaders, subject-matter experts, and technical teams to translate business, clinical, financial, quality, and operational questions into reliable measures, analyses, reports, dashboards, and other decision support solutions. Experienced Epic users desired.
The Analyst supports the full analytics lifecycle, including requirements gathering, data preparation, data quality assessment, metric definition, validation, analysis, visualization, interpretation, documentation, and ongoing maintenance. The position is expected to develop a strong understanding of the assigned business area and to help stakeholders use data more effectively to improve performance, outcomes, efficiency, and decision-making. Data & Insights Analysts may be embedded within a department or service line while receiving professional support, technical guidance, training, and access to specialized resources through the Analytics Center of Excellence.
The Analyst works within an established request intake and prioritization process and collaborates with analytics engineers, data engineers, data scientists, information technology teams, application teams, and other partners when broader technical or advanced analytic support is required.
The Data & Insights Analyst II works with a high degree of independence, manages moderately complex analytic assignments, and may serve as the primary analytics contact for an assigned business area. The position may also provide guidance and informal mentorship to less-experienced analysts.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
• Working knowledge of data analysis, data preparation, data validation, and data visualization principles.
• Proficiency using SQL or another query language to retrieve, join, filter, summarize, and validate structured data.
• Experience with at least one business intelligence or visualization tool, such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or a comparable platform.
• Experience with Python, R, SAS, SPSS, or another programming or statistical analysis tool is preferred.
• Strong spreadsheet skills, including the ability to organize, reconcile, analyze, and present data accurately.
• Understanding of relational data concepts, including tables, fields, keys, joins, grain, and data dependencies.
• Knowledge of basic statistical concepts, including rates, distributions, variation, comparisons, trends, confidence, and appropriate interpretation of findings.
• Ability to identify and investigate data-quality issues, inconsistencies, unexpected results, and potential sources of bias or error.
• Ability to translate business or clinical questions into clear analytic requirements, measures, and deliverables.
• Ability to distinguish between a reporting request and a broader business problem requiring clarification, redesign, or additional analysis.
• Ability to manage moderately complex projects and multiple competing priorities with limited supervision.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to audiences with varying levels of analytic expertise.
• Ability to develop concise written summaries, visualizations, presentations, and recommendations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as an analytic partner to assigned departments, service lines, and organizational stakeholders. Work with leaders and subject-matter experts to clarify business questions, define requirements, and develop reports, dashboards, scorecards, datasets, and analyses that support decision-making.
Extract, prepare, validate, analyze, and interpret data from clinical, operational, financial, and administrative sources using SQL, spreadsheets, business intelligence tools, Python, R, statistical software, or similar technologies.
Define, document, and validate key performance indicators, business rules, data definitions, and reporting methodologies. Promote consistent, enterprise-aligned measures and serve as a data steward by supporting data quality, completeness, consistency, lineage, accessibility, and appropriate use.
Investigate data discrepancies and collaborate with business owners, analytics teams, information technology, application teams, and engineering resources to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
Conduct descriptive, diagnostic, comparative, and exploratory analyses to identify trends, variation, risks, and improvement opportunities. Communicate findings through clear visualizations, written summaries, presentations, and practical recommendations for clinical, operational, technical, and executive audiences.
Manage assigned requests and projects through established intake, prioritization, development, testing, deployment, and documentation processes. Coordinate with analytics engineers, data engineers, database administrators, data scientists, and other specialists when more advanced technical or analytic support is required.
Support responsible use of artificial intelligence by helping define business context, validate source information, develop effective instructions or prompts, assess output quality, and identify appropriate performance measures.
Participate in departmental or service-line analytics pods, workgroups, governance activities, and performance reviews. Develop subject-matter expertise in the assigned business area and provide peer support, knowledge sharing, and informal mentorship to less-experienced analysts.
Follow Ballad Health standards for privacy, security, data governance, regulatory compliance, change management, documentation, and ethical use of data and artificial intelligence. Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Three years of relevant professional experience in analytics, reporting, data management, business intelligence, research, information systems, healthcare operations, finance, quality improvement, or a related field.
Experience must include responsibility for working with data to answer business or operational questions and communicating findings to stakeholders. Preferred: Experience working in healthcare, pharmacy, finance, clinical
operations, quality, population health, supply chain, or another regulated or data-intensive environment; experience serving as an analytic partner to a department, service line, or operational team; experience developing dashboards, automated reports, reusable datasets, scorecards, or other analytic products; experience defining, documenting, or validating performance measures and business rules; experience working with electronic health record, claims, financial, operational, or enterprise data.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in data analytics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, information systems, health informatics, public health, economics, finance, engineering, business analytics, or another quantitative or related field., A relevant master's degree may substitute for up to two years of the required professional experience.
Experience with EPIC is required.
