Construction Superintendent Commercial (Ground-Up & Tenant Improvement)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead on-site execution of projects in a wide range of industries, from grocery stores and retail developments to medical facilities. The Superintendent will be responsible for coordinating trades, enforcing safety and quality standards, maintaining schedules and budgets, and ensuring compliance with HCAI and other project-specific regulatory requirements. This role requires hands-on leadership, excellent communication with owners and subcontractors, and strong problem-solving to deliver projects on time and to specification.
Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily on-site construction activities for commercial ground-up and tenant improvement (T.I.) projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Coordinate, schedule and supervise subcontractors and craft personnel; monitor productivity and quality of work.
  • Manage project logistics including sequencing, material deliveries, site access, and equipment to maintain schedule flow.
  • Implement and enforce safety programs and jobsite rules; maintain incident reporting and ensure compliance with HCAI requirements and company safety policies.
  • Conduct daily and weekly site meetings with subcontractors, superintendents, and project management to track progress, identify issues, and resolve conflicts.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation including daily reports, RFIs, submittals, change orders and punch lists; use Procore or similar construction management platforms as required.
  • Perform quality control inspections and drive corrective actions to meet contract specifications and owner expectations.
  • Manage onsite cost controls for labor and materials, support project managers with change order documentation, and identify opportunities to mitigate cost and schedule impacts.
  • Provide mentoring and direction to assistant superintendents and field staff, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years hands-on Superintendent experience on commercial construction projects with a mix of ground-up and tenant improvement (T.I.) work.
  • Demonstrated experience ensuring compliance with commercial and HCAI requirements on applicable projects.
  • Proven track record managing multiple trades, schedules, quality control and safety on mid-size to large commercial sites.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction methods, reading plans, specifications, and submittal/RFI processes.
  • Experience with project documentation and management platforms (Procore experience is a plus).
  • Familiarity or prior experience with grocery store, retail, or QSR projects and OSHPD-regulated work is highly desirable.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
