Job description

A full-time postdoctoral fellow position is available in Dr. Jiusheng Yan's lab in the Division of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. We seek a highly motivated and creative researcher to participate in studies of ion channel signaling complexes at the molecular, cellular, and animal levels. The research will involve biochemical and functional characterization of mammalian ion channel signaling complexes using multidisciplinary techniques, including patch-clamp electrophysiology, protein purification, cryo-EM structural analysis, genetic rodent models, and neurological behavioral tests related to pain and neurological disorders.
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• The postdoctoral fellow will develop knowledge, expertise, and research independence in investigating the structural basis and physiological roles of ion channel signaling complexes.
• The fellow will gain proficiency in experimental design and execution, including patch-clamp electrophysiology, purification and compositional, structural, and functional analysis of membrane protein complexes, and rodent behavioral tests.
• The fellow will acquire skills in hypothesis-driven research, statistical analysis, scientific writing, and manuscript preparation, and will gain experience presenting research at national and international meetings.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should have a PhD degree obtained within the past few years. Prior research experience in patch-clamp electrophysiology, protein purification, cryo-EM, mass spectrometry, or animal behavioral neuroscience is preferred but not required.

MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000. depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
