LOCATION OF POSITION

The position of Maryland State\r\nPolice Trooper is a State-wide position. Troopers may be assigned and\r\nreassigned to any county within the State of Maryland.\r\nIn order to apply, you must be\r\nwilling to work in any Maryland county.\r\n*Please note, to apply you DO\r\nNOT have to be a resident of Maryland. However, all applicants selected and\r\nhired for the position of Trooper will be required to be a resident of Maryland\r\nprior to the graduation of the six (6) month MSP academy.\r\n

The basic duties and responsibilities of every Maryland State Trooper include:\r\n\r\n\tEnforcing the criminal and motor vehicle laws of the State of Maryland\r\n\tIssuing traffic citations and warnings\r\n\tInvestigating traffic accidents Investigating and completing criminal investigations\r\n\tInterviewing witnesses, victims and suspects\r\n\tWriting field reports\r\n\tArresting and processing suspects\r\n\tPreparing cases for court and testifying in court\r\n\tProviding basic medical attention to ill and injured persons\r\n

Maryland State Police offers a\r\nfull range of police services to the residents of Maryland. The basic duties\r\nand responsibilities of every Maryland State Trooper include:\r\n\r\nEnforcing the criminal and\r\nmotor vehicle laws of the State of Maryland\r\n\r\nIssuing traffic citations and\r\nwarnings\r\n\r\nInvestigating traffic accidents\r\nInvestigating and completing criminal investigations\r\n\r\nInterviewing witnesses, victims\r\nand suspects\r\n\r\nWriting field reports\r\n\r\nArresting and processing\r\nsuspects\r\n\r\nPreparing cases for court and\r\ntestifying in court\r\n\r\nProviding basic medical\r\nattention to ill and injured persons\r\nCareer Opportunities: Although\r\nno trooper candidate is selected for immediate entry into a specialized unit,\r\nthe Maryland State Police offers a wide range of assignments for experienced\r\nTroopers. After graduation of the MSP academy, field training and initial\r\nassignment to a field installation, Troopers may request a reassignment to a\r\nspecialized unit, such as:\r\nAccident Reconstruction\r\nAutomotive Safety Enforcement\r\nDivision\r\nAviation Command\r\nCanine Unit\r\nCommercial Vehicle Enforcement\r\nDivision\r\nComputer Crimes\r\nCrime Lab\r\nCriminal Investigations\r\nDive Team\r\nDrug Enforcement\r\nExecutive Protection\r\nHomeland Security\r\nLicensing Division\r\nS.T.A.T.E. SELECTION PROCESS

The entire Maryland State\r\nPolice trooper application process generally takes six (6) months to complete.\r\nThe application process is\r\ndesigned to help select those applicants who are most qualified. Below you will\r\nfind an overview of the process.\r\nPlease note, it is the goal of\r\nthe Maryland State Police to hire applicants who possess the qualifications and\r\nthe dedication to become a Maryland State Police Trooper. Please understand\r\nthat if you successfully complete all phases of this process, you MAY receive a\r\nFinal Offer of Employment. Trooper candidates are hired based upon the needs of\r\nthe Department. Successful completion of all phases of the hiring process does\r\nnot guarantee a Final Offer of Employment.\r\nCompletion of the initial section of the online application up to\r\nthe indicated stop point\r\nAttendance of an Applicant Orientation\r\nFunctional Fitness Assessment Test\r\nPOST written examination\r\nSubmission of the full application with required additional\r\ndocumentation\r\nOral Interview\r\nPolygraph Examination\r\nBackground Investigation\r\nMedical Testing\r\nPolice Selection Committee\r\n
