Essential Job Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to perform plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, electrical, and household appliance repair and preventative maintenance services so that the residence halls are kept in good repair and meet all local, state, and federal regulations for safe and habitable housing.
The Maintenance Mechanic will complete assigned work orders and process information through the use of an online work order system. The Maintenance Mechanic will also oversee and train student maintenance staff.
Other Responsibilities
This position is designated as Mandatory Personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule.
This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor. Completes other duties as assigned. May serve on the departmental on call rotation.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Progressing experience at or near journeyman level in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry trades.

  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
