PrizePicks is seeking a visionary VP of State Government Affairs to architect our long-term regulatory strategy and lead our nationwide advocacy efforts. This executive will act as the primary steward of our corporate reputation in state capitols, shaping the legislative and regulatory environments to support our rapid growth, scale, and long-term ambitions.
What you'll do:
  • Organizational Design and Leadership: Build, scale, and lead a high-performing, geographically distributed team of government affairs pros. Mentor and develop a bench of talent, ensuring the team is structured to anticipate legislative challenges and capitalize on opportunities proactively.
  • Budgeting & Resource Allocation: Develop and manage the annual State Government Affairs budget, including overseeing external firms and lobbyists, and strategically allocating resources for maximum impact and efficiency across all jurisdictions, and supporting political giving.
  • Strategic Policy Vision: Define the company's multi-year legislative roadmap. Anticipate evolving regulatory trends, influencing policy outcomes before they crystallize, and serve as a key advisor to the C-suite on the intersection of political risk, consumer choice, and business strategy.
  • Public Representative: As a senior face of PrizePicks, you'll ensure state legislators, regulators, governors, and attorneys general in all jurisdictions understand and are champions for our customers and business.
  • Industry Influence and Reputation Management: Cultivate strategic alliances with industry leaders, trade associations, and coalition partners to set the agenda for the gaming and entertainment sector. Establish PrizePicks as the gold standard for responsible policy advocacy.
  • Internal Communication & Reporting: Draft and distribute routine team updates on progress towards legislative and regulatory goals, providing concise and impactful summaries for internal company stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with legal, comms, product, and marketing teams to tell the PrizePicks story and support our user community.
What you have:
  • Experience & Expertise: 12+ years of experience in high-level policy, government, and/or public affairs roles. Proven track record of managing large-scale, multi-jurisdictional government affairs operations within tech, gaming, or highly regulated consumer industries.
  • Manager Experience: Experience leading teams and setting strategy.
  • Executive Presence: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership and external stakeholders, distilling complex policy impacts into actionable strategic pivots.
  • Strong Communication: The ability to distill complex competitive and policy dynamics into short, high-impact, politically attuned messaging for both internal and external audiences.
  • Exceptional Interpersonal Skills: The ability to quickly forge connections and build relationships, both internal and external.
  • Unparalleled Political Intuition: A proven capability to navigate ambiguity and high-stakes political environments, making decisive, well-reasoned choices that protect the business while fueling its momentum.
  • Growth Mindset: A conviction that there's always a way through and the persistence to keep adapting until you find the right solution. Each new challenge is an opportunity not just for professional advancement but also to grow our internal culture of excellence.
  • Integrity: Ability to pass key personnel submissions and background checks as part of gaming licenses.
