State Compensation Insurance Fund's Fresno State Contracts Legal office is seeking an experienced litigator at the Attorney III or Attorney classifications to join our exceptional legal team defending California's insured employers and state agencies. Who We Are Looking For:
An Attorney III or Attorney with a passion for workers' compensation law. No prior workers' comp experience required for applicants applying at the Attorney classification. The Attorney III/ Attorney will handle a hybrid caseload of both insured and state contract cases.

Location:
The Fresno State Contracts Legal unit appears at the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) district offices in Fresno. The incumbent/successful candidate may also be required to appear at other WCAB offices and locations on occasion.
To facilitate local in-person hearings, we prefer candidates located within Fresno County and/or counties nearby. Reimbursement for local travel will be provided within the allowable mile radius.
Your Role:

• Draft compelling pleadings, conduct discovery, and negotiate settlements
• Skillfully negotiate and draft settlements
• Make confident court appearances, including trials
• Analyze orthopedic and medical reports to build strong cases

Working Conditions
To be considered, you must provide a fully completed STD 678 state application, resume, and statement of qualifications via CalCareers. Resum es submitted in lieu of the STD 678 may not be accepted. Completed STD 678 must include full duties performed, start and end dates, and hours worked per week for each position held.
Selected candidate(s) hired may be required to attend in-person Onboarding at our Vacaville office with expenses for attendance paid by State Fund.

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract.
