Position: Facilities Maintenance Technician, Senior

Salary Range: $25.49/hour to $34.16/hour; Starting Salary DOQ, DOE

Location: Fairgrounds

Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours/week) High Season/ Part-time (25 hours/week) Low Season; FLSA Non-Exempt; Benefits Apply; Open Until Filled

Brief Duties and Responsibilities: This position encompasses both indoor and outdoor responsibilities focused on maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of grounds and facilities. Under the direction the Fairgrounds Manager or designee, performs a variety of ground maintenance work for the Fairgrounds and its properties including planting, spraying, fertilizing, pruning, irrigating, and maintaining lawns, plants, trees, shrubs and landscaped areas. Assists with other grounds maintenance projects as needed. Performs a variety of routine grounds maintenance work for the Fairgrounds and assists with a variety of special projects as assigned. Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Fairgrounds Manager.


Working Environment/Physical Abilities: Indoor and outdoor environment; required to drive a vehicle to conduct work. Exposure to adverse weather conditions; dust dirt, chemical fumes, and pollen; working around and with machinery having moving parts. Must be able to lift up to 100-pound objects; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized grounds equipment and power and hand tools; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; standing for extended periods of time; walking over rough or uneven surfaces; bending at the waist; kneeling or crouching; digging; carrying, pushing and pulling grounds maintenance equipment; perform heavy physical labor


Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience maintaining grass, trees, shrubs, buildings, and operating related equipment. Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience with building construction, general maintenance, maintaining grass, trees, shrubs, irrigation, chemical application in fertilizers and weed control, pruning and plant knowledge, and operating related equipment including at least one (1) year landscape and irrigation.


Licenses and Other Requirements: Must successfully pass a background check and a driving record check. Valid driver’s license required; valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency; must possess or obtain within six months of hire an agriculture pesticide applicators license; must possess or be certified within six months of hire forklift operator certification.
