Job description

Job Title:  Molecular Laboratory Scientist
Client: State of Indiana
Location: Indianapolis, IN 46202 (Onsite)
Duration: 12 Months + 
Interview: In-Person Only
Pay Rate : $31.14/hr on 1099 all inclusive 
Position Summary
This position is responsible for the isolation, identification, and characterization of enteric pathogens using microbiological and molecular techniques while ensuring compliance with CLIA regulations and laboratory quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in microbiology, molecular biology, laboratory testing, quality assurance, and scientific analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Perform microbiological examinations and analyses on clinical specimens for the isolation and identification of enteric pathogens, including Salmonella, E. coli, Shigella, Vibrio, Listeria, and Campylobacter.
Conduct laboratory testing using culture methods, biochemical testing, enzyme immunoassays (EIA), PCR, serotyping, sequencing, MALDI-TOF, and Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).
Extract nucleic acids from clinical specimens using manual and automated techniques.
Evaluate, interpret, validate, and accurately report laboratory test results.
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, documentation, and reporting.
Maintain quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) documentation in accordance with CLIA standards.
Perform instrument calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective actions when required.
Maintain laboratory inventory and ensure adequate testing supplies are available.
Assist in preparing epidemiological, statistical, and laboratory reports.
Cross-train in additional laboratory disciplines, including molecular, microbiological, virology, and serology testing, as needed.
Maintain competency through proficiency testing and ongoing training.
Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols while handling biohazardous materials.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, or another Science-related field (Biology preferred).
Strong knowledge of microbiology principles, molecular biology, and laboratory testing procedures.
Experience with microbiological culture techniques and molecular diagnostic testing.
Knowledge of PCR, sequencing, MALDI-TOF, Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS), and nucleic acid extraction.
Understanding of CLIA regulations, laboratory quality assurance (QA), and quality control (QC) procedures.
Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently while maintaining high laboratory quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of laboratory experience.
Experience working in a Molecular Biology Laboratory.
Experience with clinical, public health, or diagnostic microbiology laboratories.
Experience performing high-complexity laboratory testing.
