Position Title: Controller

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer 

Location: Austin, TX (In Person/Hybrid) 

Job Type: Full-Time 


About Us 

Everyday Coffee Company (“ECC”), a rapidly scaling Dunkin’ franchisee partner, is expanding nationwide with a high growth, multiunit operating model. As we scale, financial discipline, operational partnership, and accurate reporting are critical to supporting the opening of more than 1,000 restaurants over the next five years.  

Overview 

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting and operational financial support across multi-state, multi-unit restaurant operations. The ideal candidate brings experience in restaurant or retail accounting and finance, system implementation, thrives in a fast-paced growth environment, and knows how to balance strategic insight with hands-on financial leadership.  

Why This Role Matters 

You will own the integrity of the accounting systems that support the general ledger, the monthly close process, and internal control environment. As the leader of the accounting organization, you will supervise the offshore accounting team, ensure GAAP compliance, enhance internal controls, ensuring our financial reporting is accurate, timely, and scalable. This is a hands-on leadership role. 

Core Responsibilities 

Financial Reporting 

  • Oversee preparation of accurate, timely financial statements and management reports. 
  • Own the month-end close process  
  • Prepare and review comprehensive monthly balance sheet reconciliations using NetClose 
  • Review and sign off on complex areas: lease accounting (ASC 842 / NetLease), accruals, pre-opening cost allocations, intercompany eliminations, and vintage equity roll forwards 
  • Serve as the US GAAP compliance backstop across all ECC entities 

Risk Management and Compliance 

  • Ensure accurate accounting, cash management, and treasury operations 
  • Manage debt covenant reporting and audit-related requirements 
  • Oversee multi-state sales tax filings and regulatory compliance 
  • Maintain internal controls, financial accuracy, and GAAP compliance including but not limited to identification and remediation of control deficiencies; enforce segregation of duties 

System Optimization 

  • Support scalable financial systems and processes appropriate for high growth, multi-unit restaurant operations.  
  • Work with cross functional partners to enhance system integrations, integrity of data output, dataflows, and financial reporting.  
  • Ensure technology tools are fully leveraged. 

Process & Documentation 

  • Document all close procedures, accrual methodologies, allocation logic, and accounting judgments 
  • Drive process improvement: reduce manual reclasses, standardize journal entry templates, improve upstream data accuracy 
  • Implement and fully leverage NetClose for close management and reconciliation tracking 

Team & Offshore Oversight 

  • Directly manage and oversee offshore transactional resources 
  • Establish a clear prepare → review → approve workflow across the team 
  • Build a scalable accounting function that supports more than 1,000 restaurants without linear headcount growth 

Qualifications 

Required 

  • 7+ years in accounting/controllership roles; multi-unit restaurant, retail, or franchise experience strongly preferred 
  • Public accounting / audit background (national firm preferred) 
  • Deep technical knowledge of US GAAP, including lease principals, revenue recognition, and consolidations 
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite (or comparable ERP); comfort with system configuration, chart of accounts system controls, and integrations 
  • Proven ability to manage and develop teams, including leveraging offshore resources 
  • Advanced Excel skills; comfort working with data warehouse outputs and business intelligence tools 

Preferred 

  • CPA 
  • Experience with NetSuite ecosystem and familiarity with restaurant technology stack 
  • Background in financial reporting for franchisees or high-volume retail environments 
  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools and analytics (e.g., machine learning–driven forecasting, anomaly detection, and process automation) 
  • PE-backed or high-growth environment experience 
  • Multi-state, multi-entity consolidation experience
