Key responsibilities

  • Own the full accounting close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end reporting.

  • Develop and maintain accounting systems, controls, policies, and procedures to support growth and regulatory compliance.

  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax preparers, and regulatory bodies, and ensure audit-ready documentation.

Job description

Controller

Austin, TX (on-site)

The Opportunity

We are building the financial backbone of a new kind of energy company in emerging nuclear technologies. Backed by a recent nine-figure funding round, we are moving from pilot to commercial scale, and we need a Controller to own accounting end to end and build the systems, controls, and reporting that carry us through that growth.

This is a build role, not a maintain role. You will run the close and, at the same time, put in place the processes a capital-intensive, highly regulated business needs to finance projects, pass rigorous audits, and prepare for what comes next. If you want ownership of an accounting function from the ground up — and you want your work to help power real infrastructure — this is that seat.

What You Will Own

- The full close: journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end reporting, start to finish

- The chart of accounts, cost-coding structure, and accounting policies

- A growing accounting team — staff accountants, project accountants, and others you'll hire and develop

- Audit-ready documentation and internal controls, maintained continuously to the standard a heavily regulated industry demands

- NetSuite as our ERP — administering, optimizing, and scaling it as project activity grows

- Corporate expenses, card-spend controls, and the related reconciliations, keeping spend on-policy and accurately allocated to each project

- Relationships with external auditors, tax preparers, and regulatory bodies

- Procurement accounting controls, which you'll enforce and strengthen

- Clean, well-organized financial documentation to support project financing, bonding, and insurance requests

- Ongoing improvement of accounting policies and procedures, plus other work the role calls for as we scale

What You Bring

- Progressive accounting experience across roughly a decade or more, including at least 2 years as a Controller or Assistant Controller at a publicly traded company

- An active CPA license in any state

-Experience with review and filing of 10-K and 10-Q for SEC filings.

- A background in a regulated, capital-project environment — construction, energy, defense, or nuclear among them — is a strong plus

- Hands-on NetSuite depth: you've configured, optimized, and scaled it yourself in a previous role

- A solid command of construction or project accounting, including job costing, committed costs, budget management, and procurement accounting

- Working experience with SOX control frameworks

- Technical accounting skills that hold up to PCAOB-level audits

- A track record of standing up accounting processes and controls in a lean or early-stage setting

- Experience leading and growing accounting teams

- Experience with IPO Readiness or early stage companies.

Why This Role

- Direct ownership of the accounting function, reporting into senior leadership

- A company with real runway and a clear commercial path

- The chance to build — systems, team, and controls — rather than inherit someone else's

- Work that ties directly to bringing new energy infrastructure online

-Compensation includes, base salary, bonus and equity
