Description

Middle School & High School Counselors provide support to students, teachers, and parents with the overarching goal to increase the academic, personal/social and career development for our gifted and talented students. Secondary School counselors are an integral part of Stargate School's K-12 counseling department.


This is a 192 day position and the salary starts at $69,584 depending on experience and education level. Benefits include employer paid medical, dental, STD, LTD, life insurance, and paid time off; other optional benefits plans, like vision, life and AD&D insurance are available and paid by the employee. Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform counseling services including, but not limited to: individual counseling, small group counseling, classroom counseling lessons, registration process, scheduling, testing/assessments, student academic advisement and orientation programs for students, parents and staff
  • Gather, interpret, and evaluate data for program modification and interventions
  • Identify and provide direct case management for students who have or are at risk of disengaging from school
  • Align counseling program to ASCA behaviors and mindsets
  • Exhibit strong communication, organization, and planning skills
  • Guides and counsels students in academic achievement, career and personal/social development
  • Collaborate with school personnel to support various programs designed to increase student achievement
  • Demonstrate the ability and interest to work with a diverse student population
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills through collaborative work with students, teachers, parents and administrators
  • Actively participate in a professional learning community
  • Maintain integrity and confidentiality
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills
  • Possess knowledge of current best practices within the field of gifted and talented best practices
  • Participate in Stargate K-12 counseling department meetings
  • Collaborate with outside stakeholders when appropriate
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Education, Licenses, and Work Experience:

  • Master's or higher degree in School Counseling
  • Required active Special Service Provider License in School Counseling granted through Colorado Department of Education

Technical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ability to promote and follow school policies, district policies, building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Willingness to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • Advanced skills in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, and problem solving. Ability to work collaboratively with all school personnel.
  • Experience or working knowledge of the juvenile justice system, youth serving agencies and community partnerships.
  • Counseling and group facilitation skills.
  • Customer service and public relations skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of issues related to youth at risk of school failure.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to diffuse volatile and stressful situations.
  • Ability to stay current with district policy, standards and training in the areas of data quality, data privacy, and cybersecurity with respect to student and staff data, and related information systems.
