Position Type: Transportation/Fleet Service Utility Standby Date Posted: 5/2/2026 Location: Transportation Office Closing Date: until filled ย ย Additional Information: Show/Hide Fleet Services Utility Standby Transportation Department Grade 8 of the ESP Salary Scale ($21.60 - $39.08) 8 hours a day, 12-Month Work Year Reports to Fleet Services Supervisor Employee Benefits Summary Role Overview This position supports the school bus and garage operations by serving as a standby school bus driver and assisting garage operations as assigned. Minimum Requirements High school diploma/GED. Possess valid "CDL" driver's license Class B with Passenger, Air Brake and School Bus Endorsement. Possess a valid driver's license with no court ordered restrictions, verified with driving history record. Experience in servicing, fueling, and cleaning vehicles in a professional status. Ability to interpret verbal and written communications. Ability to complete a comprehensive pre-trip on buses or a safety check on pool cars. Ability to physically clean spare buses and cool cars on a regular basis. Operate a computer and basic software applications related to area of service. Ability to complete required certifications, such as fuel storage and dispensing. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) school bus operations and procedures. Thorough knowledge of Washington County roadways. Five (5) years of school bus driving experience. Role Responsibilities Perform duties as a school bus driver as needed. Maintain the schedule for washing buses, pool cars, and other WCPS vehicles. Monitor and maintain fueling station records (fuel, oil, supplies). Maintain computer database of maintenance records, supplies, and parts. Monitor and maintain supplies for wash bays. Fuel fleet vehicles. Clean pool cars inside/outside. Check and add oil, antifreeze, and fluids to vehicles when required. Operate battery charging equipment and jump start vehicles. Inspect, repair, and replace safety equipment (first aid kits, fire extinguishers, body fluid kits, etc.). Assist in performing Class B State School Bus Inspections. Road test vehicles as required. Clean fuel station and wash bays (inside/outside areas). Responsible for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials. Perform minor repairs (tightening, replacing, and adjusting mirrors, sunvisors, and seats). Other duties as assigned by Fleet Services Supervisor, Supervisor of Transportation or his/her designee. Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools. Environmental Factors and Physical/Mental Requirements The Environmental Factors and Physical/Mental demands represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Required periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and other office equipment. Ability to sufficiently and efficiently move throughout the building and grounds for extended periods. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to move, raise, lower, and carry objects up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Must be able to bend, crouch, stoop, reach, and climb ladders. Will be subjected to loud noises, dusts, fumes, hot and cold outdoor temperatures and related weather conditions.
