Department

The department of Parking and Transportation within the Division of Administration and Finance provides access to the campus through alternative commute options and parking programs that mitigate traffic congestion and improve air quality through the reduction of mobile source emissions. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Parking Officer I. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Parking Officer I patrols campus parking facilities and other campus areas to enforce parking regulations and issue parking violation notices to illegally parked vehicles in order to ensure equitable enforcement and access to opportunities at California State University, Fullerton. Provide community service to students, faculty, and staff, and respond appropriately to customer questions, complaints, and concerns. Note vehicles with five (5) or more delinquent parking violations and get approval from supervisor to place immobilization devices (boots) on vehicles. Report parking lot light outages, lack of proper signs, and parking facilities maintenance issues to management. Place traffic control equipment and provide traffic direction on campus during events, emergencies or other incidents as directed. Maintain and troubleshoot field equipment such as electronic message boards, permit dispensers, radios, etc. Maintain and monitor inventory of frequently needed items such as signs, barricades, cones, keys, etc. Monitor lot usage by accurately counting and reporting either the number of parked vehicles or open spaces. Work collaboratively with Parking and Transportation Services team members and oversee the work of student assistants. Serves as an active member of the team supporting an inclusive environment of information sharing and discussion of various perspectives. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent plus three to six months related experience. Ability to patrol parking lots, coordinating traffic and assist in the coordination of special events and possession of a California driver's license. Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn how to use applicable parking-related equipment and automated systems is essential. Working knowledge of geographical layout of the campus and ability to read maps and floor plans to provide directions to visitors, faculty, staff, and students in the field. Ability to accurately interpret written policies, follows oral and written instructions, and transfer information. Ability to provide clear and concise verbal directions quickly and accurately. Ability to present and summarize information in a variety of written formats, using clear and concise language. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, interact with all members of the campus community and the general public. Ability to maintain composure in highly stressful situations or when dealing with difficult individuals. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to write standard parking incident reports in a clear and concise manner. Ability to observe and recall details and incidents, as well as detect and respond appropriately to potentially hazardous situations. Ability to appropriately handle parking monies received.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in T2 Flex and Microsoft Office is highly desirable. Ability to anticipate operational problems and address them proactively. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within the department and with the CSUF campus community. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing. High school diploma and at least one year of related experience in parking enforcement, events, and/or customer service, preferably in a university setting. Commitment to provide enforcement and customer services equitably and professionally to students, faculty, and staff.

License/Certifications

A valid California driver's license.
