Under supervision, installs, repairs and maintains parking meters; performs experimental and developmental work with parking meter mechanisms; collects and deposits monies from parking meters; does related work as required.
Repairs parking meters in field, e.g., broken keys in locks, malfunction of timing mechanisms, jammed coin slots, public manipulations of timing device, jammed handles, frozen meters, broken glass, meter recombinations, etc. Removes and replaces damaged or vandalized meters that are beyond repair; paints meters and poles and stencils meter numbers; assists in the installation of new poles and meters. Does necessary bench repair work in ship, e.g., repairs, replaces and washes all meter mechanisms to remove dirt, rust, etc. before releasing for field use or inventory. Experiments with mechanisms in order to develop improvements and adaptations that can be effected in the shop. Records completed parking meter repair work. Drives vehicle to and from work sites; loads and unloads vehicles of all necessary supplies for repair work; assists in the unloading of all material deliveries to the shop. Collects money from parking meters for deposit in banks; checks condition of meters; repairs and/or records damaged or malfunctioning meters for future repair. Periodically counts money in master containers, under supervision, to check bank statements from errors. May be assigned necessary duties to ensure a clean and orderly shop.
2 years of experience required in related work. Must be a resident of the city of Boston.
