Job description

Join Our Team as an Electric Motor Mechanic!

R/S Electric Motor Sales & Service is a trusted provider of electric motor sales, repair, and maintenance services based in St. Joseph, Missouri. With a large inventory of new and rebuilt motors from leading manufacturers, the company supports industrial, commercial, and municipal customers with dependable motor solutions, hoists, drives, and accessories. Backed by over 15,000 square feet of shop and warehouse space, R/S Electric Motor Sales & Service offers comprehensive in-house and field services, including motor repair, predictive diagnostics, vibration analysis, balancing, laser alignment, and infrared scanning to help customers maximize equipment reliability and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair AC electric motors and, when experienced, DC electric motors.
  • Perform electrical testing and inspections to evaluate motor condition.
  • Disassemble motors and inspect components for wear, damage, and failure.
  • Measure and verify fit tolerances using micrometers and precision measuring instruments.
  • Evaluate stator and rotor condition and determine repair requirements.
  • Clean motor components through washing and baking processes.
  • Perform post-bake electrical testing and insulation checks.
  • Install bearings and other replacement components.
  • Reassemble motors according to manufacturer specifications and shop standards.
  • Conduct full-voltage test runs and performance verification.
  • Prepare and paint completed motors prior to delivery.
  • Document repair findings and completed work as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

What You’ll Do:

All team members contribute to the overall success of the shop. In addition to repair work, this position may be required:

  • Clean and organize shop work areas.
  • Cut and strip stators.
  • Scrap and dispose of motor components that are beyond repair.
  • Load, unload, and move materials and equipment.
  • Assist with inventory, material handling, and shop operations.
  • Support office and shop personnel with operational needs as required.
  • Perform other duties necessary to keep the business operating efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Three years of electric motor repair (preferred)
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild equipment using hand and power tools.
  • Experience with electric motor repair, industrial maintenance, or related mechanical work preferred.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments and follow testing, safety, and quality procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, dependable work ethic, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to safely lift and move motors, components, and materials in a shop environment.
