The Scenic Installer is responsible for working with the project managers, installation team, and shop staff to prep, tech, and efficiently and safely install staging, drape, scenery, and light rigging in venues and jobsites around the country.  Scenic Installers will be assigned to all small-to-medium-scale shows and jobs to manage onsite installation. Scenic installers will all be assigned to large scale shows and jobs under the supervision of a Lead Scenic Installer.  As Scenic Installer you'll be tasked with communicating and building confidence with the onsite client and will represent CommuniLux Production and InProduction onsite. The Scenic installer will also work alongside and direct venue staff, production staff, productions carpenters, and local labor to install equipment provided by CommuniLux and InProduction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, teardown scenery, staging, carpentry, flooring, drape, and other staging elements in various indoor and outdoor venues.
  • Lead and instruct local labor to install and strike staging and scenery.
  • Work under Lead Scenic Installers on large scale projects.
  • Prep, tech and label all scenic pieces at shop prior to shipping with shop staff so you know and understand how scenic parts go together.
  • Work with shop foreman and project manager to understand drawings and contracted deliverables to ensure you know everything that needs to be packed and installed onsite.
  • Safely deliver, unload, and load trucks with staging gear and elements.
  • Read stage layouts, scenic specifications and blueprints.
  • Prep and pack tools and equipment needed for onsite.
  • Check load lists and pull lists with Project Management team.
  • Assemble scenery, walls, SEG frames, staging, and drape using hand and power tools onsite.
  • Operate with passion, respect, integrity, dedication, accountability, and empowerment.
  • Operate and maintain tools, materials, equipment, and supplies used in technical production.
  • Work with clients, production carpenter, and technical director to build and remodel and scenic elements that need to be modified due to unforeseen issues.
  • Ensure appropriate safety measures are followed; including wearing and use of safety equipment.
  • Uphold company safety standards and ensure appropriate safety measures are followed.
  • Ensure full client satisfaction in relation to the quality of service and finished product within planned time schedules.
  • Keep up with tools and gear onsite and lock up tools at end of day.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites, including removing debris and materials.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience as scenic installer, stagehand, or shop carpenter.
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Associates or Technical degree in either Technical Theatre, Construction, or applicable work experience.
  • Up to 75% travel.
  • Occasional international travel.
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift and carry 75 pounds.
  • Basic construction skills, carpentry, staging, rigging, and truck loading are essential in this position.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 is a plus, but not required.
  • Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage time well.
  • Valid United States Driver's License Preferred.

Compensation:

  • Hourly (rate commensurate on experience).
  • Overtime available.
  • Hotels, travel, and per diem are paid by InProduction.
