Job description


An Audio Visual Systems Designer is responsible for creating custom Audio Visual solutions, through collaboration with clients and estimation team, performing the needs analysis to determine and develop required equipment, estimation of miscellaneous materials and labor, sourcing cost estimates from suppliers and subcontractors, compiling a comprehensive scope of work, expressing design details and strategy to leadership, and presenting to the client prior to the award. Upon awarded business, this role is also responsible for creation of a drawing package to communicate the awarded Audio Visual solution and relevant construction requirements, finalizing the bill of materials to achieve the scope of work, creation of equipment configuration and submittal documentation detailing the A/V design upon award, attendance in project meetings, site visits, supporting the implementation team as the owner of the design, performing system commissioning and training, participation in change order process, and assembling as-built information into a closeout package.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive discovery and needs analysis with clients
  • Prepare and track Request(s) for Information
  • Specify and design A/V solutions from concept through completion which meet client needs
  • Attend bid meetings, walkthroughs, and site surveys
  • Research equipment and emerging technologies
  • Determine and price equipment and material list
  • Develop the statement of work and responsibility matrix
  • Perform labor cost estimation for each role involved
  • Solicit pricing from subcontractors
  • Collaborate with team to address concerns
  • Analyze cost factors related to site location and conditions
  • Assemble proposal compiling all costs
  • Complete bidder forms and/or proposal templated
  • Express design details and strategy to leadership
  • Articulate the capabilities and requirements of the A/V solution to clients
  • Transfer knowledge upon award via kick-off meeting
  • Produce and maintain A/V drawing package via CAD software
  • Calculate power, networking, and cable path requirements, expressed in A/V drawings
  • Indicate A/V device and construction requirements in plan and elevation views, expressed in A/V drawings
  • Draft signal flow diagrams and relevant details, expressed in A/V drawings
  • Maintain ownership and accountability of A/V design
  • Provide construction administration support through submittal and shop drawing reviews, and site visits
  • Adhere to Company standards and industry best practices
  • Mentor, train, and coach others on the team to achieve the A/V design
  • Perform configuration and commissioning of A/V devices
  • Achieve relevant training to maintain industry certifications
  • Travel as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Professional Certification - AVIXA CTS-DBS in Electronic Technologies, Electrical Engineering or a related field; or equivalent experience and/or military training is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial AV industry, preferably with a systems integrator
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings (architectural, mechanical, and electrical systems) and related documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage strict timelines with multiple design projects to meet deadlines
  • Ability to interact with clients, architects, engineers and contractors
  • Proficiency with Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD LT)
  • Specialized training, such as SynAudCon and AQAV are a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with: QSC Q-SYS, Shure, Sonance, Logitech, Yealink, Crestron, AMX, Extron, Cisco, Poly, and other industry leading products (certifications preferred)
  • Experience with web-based conferencing and collaboration platforms (Skype for Business, MS Teams, Zoom, WebEx, etc.)
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure and IP-based AV systems (Dante, AES67, Multicast, Unicast)
  • Computer savvy with advanced Excel and MS Office applications
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to train and direct others
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities
