About the Role
As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the conceptualization, design, implementation and testing of technologies, tools, or processes while consistently demonstrating technical expertise and ingenuity. Demonstrate the ability to plan, define, and execute projects independently and with minimal guidance. Recognized throughout the Division as an emerging expert.
In this role, you will design and develop power electronics hardware for amplifier systems sold under the Crown/JBL brands. You will be responsible for component selection, circuit simulations, schematic capture, PCB layout and routing, prototype testing and support manufacturing activities.
What You Will Do
  • Architect, design, and test high power audio amplifiers and power supplies.
  • Lead and participate in technical design reviews and advise on all aspects of product design.
  • Ensure products meet customer and internal requirements, specifications, and cost targets.
  • Conduct research and development of new technologies and products.
  • Release and maintain controlled documents in Harman's documentation system.

What You Need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical engineering or related field and 12 years of industry experience. Alternatively, Master's Degree in above mentioned fields and 8 years of experience; or PhD degree and 4 years of experience in power electronics analysis and design..
  • Expert in the field of power electronics/power supplies.
  • Experience working with a variety of power converter applications and topologies including, but not limited to:
    • AC/DC and DC/DC converters
    • Power Factor Correction (PFC)
    • Resonant and Quasi-resonant converts (SRC, LLC, LCC, etc)
    • Flyback, full-bridge, half-bridge, forward, buck, boost, etc
    • Control systems design
  • Expertise in electronics computer-aided design (ECAD) tools such as Xpedition, Altium.
  • Experience in design for global safety / regulatory requirements (CSA, UL, etc.). Experience and/or knowledge in PCB layout practices.
  • Through knowledge of design techniques and methods for EMC compliance.
  • Proficiency with circuit simulations tools such as Simplis, LTspice, etc

What is Nice to Have
  • Previous Professional or Consumer Audio/Video experience. Knowledge of professional audio systems (public address, cinema, sound reinforcement, etc.)
  • Experience and/or knowledge in PWM Class D switching amplifier design including:
    • Feedback and power stage simulation/design.
    • Protection schemes.
  • Thermal design experience related to power semiconductors for both natural and forced air convection including thermal interfacing and dissipation.
  • Transformer/magnetic design knowledge and/or experience.
  • Experience working with wide-bandgap semiconductor technologies (GaN/SiC).
  • Experience with mixed signal analog/digital system design.

$ 125,250 - $ 183,700
