What is a staff technical program manager?

Staff Technical Program Managers (Staff TPMs) are experienced professionals who oversee complex, cross-functional technical projects within an organization. They are responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing programs that often involve multiple teams, technologies, and stakeholders. Staff TPMs work closely with engineering, product, and leadership to define project goals, manage risks, and ensure successful delivery. Their seniority allows them to influence technical strategy and mentor other program managers. This role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across different parts of the organization.

How does a staff technical program manager typically collaborate with engineering and product teams to drive project success?

As a Staff Technical Program Manager, you will frequently act as a bridge between engineering and product teams, ensuring alignment on project goals, timelines, and deliverables. This involves facilitating cross-functional meetings, clarifying technical requirements, and managing dependencies across multiple teams. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are essential, as effective collaboration is key to delivering complex projects on time and within scope.

How you'll make an impact:

We have a terrific opportunity for a Senior Staff Technical Program Manager with a passion for delivering high-quality products while driving organizational clarity, alignment, and technical evolution in a complex, fast-paced environment.

In this role, you will operate as a department-level strategist and orchestrator, leading mission-critical, multi-year initiatives that span Mobile, Platform, and dependent systems. You will be accountable not only for delivery, but for shaping how large programs are planned, sequenced, communicated, and executed across the organization. Your leadership will influence engineering strategy, execution frameworks, and decision-making at the Director and VP level.

What you'll do

Own delivery of mission-critical, multi-year programs spanning multiple engineering organizations and technical domains

Define program strategy and execution, partnering closely with senior product and engineering leadership

Lead initiatives in highly ambiguous environments, establishing clarity, structure, and execution models

Anticipate, surface, and resolve systemic, cross-organizational risks and dependencies

Define and institutionalize org-wide program management frameworks, operating rhythms, and governance models

Remove structural blockers that impede execution across teams and domains

Shape architectural conversations by applying deep technical understanding to sequencing, trade-offs, and long-term platform implications

Drive executive-level communication, crafting concise, decision-ready narratives and scenario-based options

Mentor and coach Staff and Senior TPMs, raising the bar for execution excellence across the organization

Serve as a trusted advisor to Directors and VPs on delivery health, risk posture, and prioritization

What you'll need:

8+ years (or equivalent impact) leading complex, cross-organizational technical programs

Proven experience delivering and maintaining software at scale to millions of active users

Strong architectural literacy across multiple systems and platforms

Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority

Experience defining execution frameworks and operating rhythms at organizational scale

Exceptional communication skills, including executive-level storytelling and decision framing

Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

Experience with automation and/or AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.

Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
