Equinox Engineering Ltd. is a leading Calgary-based EPCM firm delivering innovative facility design and engineering solutions across natural gas, conventional oil, heavy oil, SAGD, and emerging energy sectors. We partner with top energy producers across Canada and internationally to design safe, reliable, and efficient facilities from early concept through execution and operation.
We are seeking an Intermediate Civil Engineer who is ready to take on larger scopes with greater independence while continuing to grow technical and leadership capabilities within a multidisciplinary EPCM environment. In this role, you will contribute to civil and structural design on oil and gas facilities and infrastructure, support project execution, and assist in coordinating interfaces across disciplines.

What You'll Do
As an Intermediate Civil / Structural Engineer, you will help deliver safe, constructible, and code-compliant designs with increasing ownership over project components.
Technical & Civil/Structural Design
  • Lead and contribute to the design and analysis of earthworks, site grading, roads, and drainage systems for oil and gas facilities and related infrastructure, across project phases from concept through detailed engineering
  • Perform civil calculations, design checks, drawings review, and technical reports under limited supervision
  • Develop and review engineering sketches and markups for drafting staff to prepare 3D models and design drawings
  • Prepare material take-offs, quantities, and work packages; support procurement and construction activities with technical inputs
Coordination & Collaboration
  • Coordinate with process, piping, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines to gather inputs and resolve interface items
  • Participate in design reviews, incorporate feedback from senior engineers and stakeholders, and communicate effectively with internal teams and clients
Project Execution & Delivery
  • Support the delivery of civil deliverables to meet scope, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Provide bid/proposal input, vendor data reviews, and technical clarifications during procurement
  • Contribute to risk assessments, constructability reviews, and design optimization efforts
Construction & Field Support
  • Provide engineering support during construction, respond to field queries, and help resolve technical challenges
  • Participate in site visits/inspections as required and ensure designs remain practical and buildable
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Adhere to safety, environmental, and quality requirements throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support adherence to applicable codes and standards (e.g., CSA, CISC, NBC, provincial codes)
About You
You are an intermediate civil/structural engineer who enjoys practical design work, steady responsibility growth, and collaborating within multidisciplinary teams. You bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (required)
  • P.Eng. eligibility/registration with APEGA (required)
  • 5-8 years of civil engineering experience, with EPCM oil & gas exposure preferred, although candidates with mining and municipal development backgrounds will also be considered
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • A detail-oriented, analytical approach to problem-solving

Technical Foundation
  • Understanding of earthworks design practicesย 
  • Understanding of stormwater drainage systems and associated calculations
  • Understanding of secondary containment systems, including liners, underdrains, and wall systems
  • Understanding of road design, including geometry, sub-base and base course gravel, geotextiles, etc.
  • Familiarity with industry design standards and drawing practices
  • Experience collaborating with Geotechnical and other design disciplines

Software Proficiency
  • Working knowledge ofย  civil engineering tools such asย  MS Excel and model review using Navisworks Freedom.
  • Experience with structural software (e.g. RISA, S-Frame, etc.) not mandatory but considered an asset
  • Civil3D experience considered an asset

Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Civil Professional Engineer - P.Eng or EIT with APEGA
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in civil earthworks / grading engineering (oil & gas facilities experience preferred)
