Job description

About the role
We are a private equity backed wholesale distributor of appliances seeking a Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This is a hands-on role at the center of our credits, cash application, and month-end close processes. You will own the full lifecycle of vendor, inventory, and customer credits while also contributing to the general ledger - posting journal entries, supporting the monthly close, and helping bring reconciliation discipline to a high-volume, fast-moving environment.
This is an ideal opportunity for an accountant who wants ownership over meaningful process areas and room to grow into broader general ledger and financial reporting work as the company scales.
What you'll do
Credits and cash application
• Track, research, and process vendor credits, inventory credits, and customer credits from initiation through resolution

Match and apply incoming customer payments to open invoices, resolving short-pays, deductions, and partial payments
• Investigate and clear unapplied cash and clearing-account items
• Partner with AP, AR, and purchasing to resolve discrepancies and ensure credits are recorded accurately and timely
General ledger and month-end close
• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclasses, and adjusting entries
• Perform account reconciliations and research variances
• Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and help meet close deadlines
• Assist with cleanup and standardization of accounting records and processes
Customer credit and controls
• Review and support customer credit approval and credit-limit decisions in coordination with the sales and collections teams
• Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails supporting all entries and reconciliations
• Support internal and external audit requests as needed
Process and collaboration
• Identify and recommend improvements to credit, reconciliation, and close workflows
• Work cross-functionally with AP, AR, inventory, and IT/ERP teams
What you bring
Required
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on journal entry preparation and month-end close
• Working knowledge of AR and/or AP cycle
• Experience with account reconciliations and variance research
• Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and double-entry accounting fundamentals
• Proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, large data sets)
• Experience working within an ERP accounting system
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines in a high-volume environment
Preferred
• Experience in wholesale distribution, manufacturing, or another high-volume inventory business
• Experience with vendor rebates, RTV/RMA returns, or credit/deduction processing
• Experience with cash applications
• Exposure to a private equity-backed or audited environment
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• INxSQL experience
What we offer
• A growing, PE-backed company with real opportunity to expand your scope into broader GL and reporting work
• A collaborative accounting team that values accuracy, ownership, and process improvement
