HOURS: Up to 25 hours per week

BARGAINING UNIT: Non-Bargaining Unit

LOCATION: Louis Stokes Wing (Center for Local and Global History)

PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour

JOB SUMMARY:

The Page II position is responsible for performing basic library work, primarily shelving materials by arranging them in proper order for accessibility to patrons and library staff.

A Page II will be required to work 25 hours per week and may float between departments and/or locations within a region. Reliable transportation is required to work in the branches.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Age Requirements: 16 years of age for Page II.

Education:  N/A

Experience: Ability to pass a library math and alphabetizing assessment.      

Technical Expertise:

  • General knowledge of the English language and mathematics, 0-9 numbering system.
  • Ability to organize materials in numerical order.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instruction and to identify exceptions.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to prioritize work demands.
  • Ability to learn the Library of Congress and/or Dewey Decimal filing systems.
  • Ability to learn and implement best practices in handling of library materials.
  • Ability to handle/process library materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Sorts books and other library materials such as magazines, newspapers, and AV materials.
  • Retrieves books and other library materials for patrons and librarians.
  • Reads shelves periodically.
  • Dusts and vacuums books and stack area periodically.
  • Shifts or moves books and other library materials.
  • May assist patrons with basic inquiries and directions.
  • May assist library staff with programs including preparation and clean-up.   
  • Files pamphlets and brochures.
  • Shelves and retrieves AV materials.
  • Paste labels and bookplates.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties such as: turning lights on and off; arranging chairs; clearing tables; picking up and discarding newspapers.
  • Delivers library materials to agencies throughout the library.
  • Runs errands inside and outside the library.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
