Child Care Aide – CASA After-School Program
2026-27 Academic Year
St Matthew Catholic School
San Mateo, CA

About St. Matthew Catholic School

Serving a diverse community of over 600 students from Kindergarten through 8th grade, St. Matthew Catholic School is committed to educating students to a high standard in both academics and character. We strive to form our students to be PEARLS: People with strong character, Effective communicators, Active Christians, Responsible citizens, and Lifelong learners.

St. Matthew’s is supported by a strong parish and school parent community who partner with us in forming saints and scholars. Our faculty and staff work collaboratively to create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive.

About the Position

St. Matthew Catholic School is seeking a dependable, caring, and enthusiastic Child Care Aide to join our CASA after-school program. CASA provides students with a safe and welcoming environment at the end of the school day where they can complete homework, participate in activities, play, and spend time with their peers.

Under the direction of the Dean of Student Affairs, the Child Care Aide works collaboratively with CASA staff to supervise students, support daily activities and routines, assist with student transitions and dismissal, and help maintain an organized and positive after-school environment. The Child Care Aide also helps reinforce the school’s PEARLS values by modeling positive behavior, encouraging responsibility and respectful communication, and supporting students in their interactions with one another.

This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with children, is comfortable in an active school environment, and can provide consistent and attentive supervision while building positive relationships with students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide active and attentive supervision of students throughout the after-school program.
  • Assist with student arrival, check-in, transitions, activities, homework time, play, and dismissal/pick-up.
  • Support recreational, enrichment, and other age-appropriate activities.
  • Encourage positive student behavior and reinforce school and CASA rules, procedures, and expectations.
  • Help create and maintain a safe, welcoming, clean, and organized program environment.
  • Monitor students during both indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of CASA spaces, supplies, and equipment.
  • Communicate student concerns, incidents, parent questions, or other significant issues promptly to the Dean of Student Affairs.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with students, parents/guardians, faculty, and staff.
  • Follow school procedures related to student safety, emergency response, and authorized student pickup.
  • Collaborate with other CASA staff to ensure smooth daily program operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Affairs or school administration.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with school-age children in a school, childcare, recreation, camp, coaching, or similar setting preferred.
  • Positive, patient, and comfortable engaging with children of varying ages.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance.
  • Ability to provide attentive supervision and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school and after-school program team.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Must meet all applicable St. Matthew Catholic School and Archdiocese of San Francisco requirements for employees working with children.

Schedule & Compensation

This is a part-time, non-exempt/hourly, school-year position, generally scheduled Monday through Friday from approximately 2:30–6:00 p.m., or approximately 17.5 hours per week. The position follows the school calendar, and regular hours are generally not scheduled when school is not in session.

The anticipated pay range is $18.60 - $25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Why Join St. Matthew?

This role offers an opportunity to become part of a close-knit school community and make a meaningful difference in students’ daily experience.
