Job Overview:
The Substitute Teachers Aide provides assistance and support to classroom
teachers in facilitating learning activities, managing student behavior, and
creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. This position involves
working under the direction of the classroom teacher to implement lesson plans,
provide individualized support to students, and maintain classroom organization
and safety. The Substitute Teachers Aide may be required to fill in for regular
aides on short notice or as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Classroom Support: Assist classroom teachers in preparing and
implementing lesson plans, activities, and instructional materials to meet
educational objectives.
- Student Assistance: Provide individualized support to students, including
tutoring, small group instruction, and one-on-one assistance with assignments
and projects.
- Behavior Management: Help maintain a positive and orderly classroom
environment by enforcing rules, managing behavior, and addressing disciplinary
issues according to school policies.
- Student Supervision: Supervise students during instructional time,
transitions, recess, and other activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all
times.
- Assessment Support: Assist with administering assessments, quizzes,
and exams, as well as scoring and recording student performance data as
directed by the teacher.
- Resource Management: Organize and maintain instructional materials,
supplies, and equipment, ensuring they are accessible and in good working
condition.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with students, teachers,
administrators, and parents regarding student progress, concerns, and
achievements.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other school staff, including teachers,
counselors, and support personnel, to support student success and promote a
positive school culture.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent: Basic educational requirement.
- Experience working with children: Previous experience as a teacher's
aide, childcare provider, or volunteer in educational settings preferred.
- Interpersonal skills: Ability to establish rapport with students, build
positive relationships, and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse
backgrounds.
- Patience and empathy: Ability to interact with students in a patient,
supportive, and compassionate manner, especially when assisting with academic
challenges or behavioral issues.
- Organizational skills: Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and
maintain classroom organization in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changing classroom needs, schedules,
and routines, and to assist with a variety of tasks as assigned by the teacher.
- Background check: Must pass a criminal background check and any
other screenings required by the school or district.
- Physical stamina: Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom
for extended periods, as well as to assist with physical activities and student
supervision.
- Commitment to education: Dedication to supporting student learning and
development, fostering a positive learning environment, and contributing to the
overall success of the classroom and the school.
Working Conditions:
• The Substitute Teachers Aide will primarily work during school hours,
assisting in classrooms and other educational settings as needed.
• The job may involve interacting with students in various grade levels and
subject areas, as well as collaborating with teachers and other school personnel.
• The position may require standing, walking, and participating in physical
activities during instructional time and student supervision.
