Job description

RESPONSIBILITES:
This position serves as the head of the Fire Prevention/Risk Reduction Division of the Fire Department and is appointed by the Fire Chief as the official "Fire Marshal" of the City. This position involves the performance of skilled inspection work to secure and maintain compliance with municipality fire codes. Work includes the inspection and re-inspection of a variety of existing structures, review of new construction and remodeling blueprints, inspection of new and remodeled construction, and participation in the departmental fire prevention education programs.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (or must be obtained within two (2) years):
  1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training courses in fire prevention / related subjects
  2. Five (5) years of experience in fire, emergency medical service work and/or fire prevention
  3. St. Louis County Professional Firefighter Certification (Preferred)
  4. Missouri Fire Officer I
  5. International Fire Code Certifications
  6. Missouri Certified Fire Inspector I

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State Driver's License without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
  2. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven (7) years.
  3. Ability to read and write the English language.
