Job description

SMS is hiring a Sr. Wireless Engineer located in the DC Metro area to help manage the Base Infrastructure Modernization (BIM) Task Orders working with the Air Force to modernize the Base.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead wireless network design and architecture for modernized NIPR wireless infrastructure ensuring comprehensive coverage, optimal performance, and compliance with technical requirements.
  • Design wireless local area network (WLAN) infrastructure based on greenfield implementations with no legacy wireless reuse.
  • Perform RF site surveys, propagation modeling, and heatmap analysis determining optimal wireless access point placements.
  • Design wireless coverage for flightline locations, aircraft maintenance hangars, supply warehouses, munitions storage areas, vehicle maintenance facilities, entry control points, and all required coverage areas.
  • Design wireless authentication mechanisms, Network Access Control implementations, and secure wireless architectures complying with DoD security requirements.
  • Ensure TEMPEST compliance for all wireless infrastructure preventing electromagnetic emanations compromising classified information.
  • Coordinate spectrum planning and frequency coordination with base Spectrum Managers.
  • Design wireless architectures supporting high-density user environments and mission-critical mobility requirements.
  • Evaluate emerging wireless technologies including private 5G and recommends implementations.
  • Develop wireless equipment Bills of Materials specifying wireless controllers, access points, antennas, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Create detailed wireless coverage maps and Radio Frequency engineering documentation.
  • Participate in Integration Planning Reviews and Critical Integration Reviews.
  • Ensure wireless designs integrate seamlessly with wired network infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in wireless engineering, telecommunications, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of wireless network engineering experience.
  • Certified Wireless Design Professional (CWDP) certification required.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed.
  • Requires a DoD Secret security clearance or the ability to successfully pass a background check and obtain an Interim Secret clearance.
