What is a Sr Project Controls Analyst?

Sr Project Controls Analysts are senior professionals responsible for overseeing and coordinating project cost management, scheduling, and reporting processes. They analyze project performance, monitor budgets, identify risks, and ensure projects stay on track and within financial constraints. Their expertise helps organizations optimize resources, improve forecasting, and deliver projects successfully. Typically, they collaborate closely with project managers and stakeholders to provide insights and support decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

How does a Sr Project Controls Analyst typically collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders during a project's lifecycle?

A Sr Project Controls Analyst works closely with project managers, schedulers, engineers, and finance teams to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget. They play a key role in developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules and cost forecasts, providing regular updates and variance reports. Effective communication is essential, as they must translate complex data into actionable insights for stakeholders, helping drive informed decision-making. Collaboration often involves attending progress meetings, identifying potential risks, and recommending corrective actions to keep the project on track.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sr Project Controls Analyst, and why are they important?

Job description

Who We Areย

Rising Edge Group is an electrical contracting company founded in 2002, specialization in high-voltage electrical solutions that power critical infrastructure across North America. With operations in both Canada and the United States, we partner with clients across the electrical utilities, renewable energy, and industrial sectors to design, build, andย maintainย the critical infrastructure systems communities and industries rely on.ย

Driven byย a clear visionย to strengthen the stability, reliability, and advancement of energy infrastructure, we take pride in delivering work that matters. Guided by ourย STRIDEย values - Safety, Teamwork, Responsibility, Integrity, Deliver, and Excellence - we foster a people focused culture of growth,ย mentorshipย and collaboration where safety always come first.ย ย

What You'll Doย ย

Reporting to the Director of Project Services, the Senior Project Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules across the full project lifecycle, from preconstruction and bid development through baseline establishment and execution support.

This is not a schedule maintenance role. We are seeking someone who can build credible, logic-driven schedules grounded in real construction means and methods, actively support project teams through planning and execution, and contribute to strengthening scheduling standards, templates, and repeatable processes across the organization.

The ideal candidate brings advanced Primavera P6 expertise, strong construction acumen, and experience supporting complex, high-value, high-risk EPC projects.

This role is well-suited for an individual who wants to go beyond managing individual project schedules and play a meaningful role in evolving and maturing the organization's scheduling function.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:ย ย

  • Independently develop and own preliminary project schedules for bids, proposals, and preconstruction efforts based on available scope, drawings, client requirements, execution assumptions, and commercial milestones.
  • Work closely with estimating, engineering, procurement, project management, and operations teams to translate construction strategy, sequencing, milestones, constraints, and resource requirements into practical and executable schedules.
  • Provide scheduling leadership during the transition from estimate to execution, including schedule handoff documentation, logic assumptions, basis of schedule information, and planning support for project teams.
  • Develop, maintain, and control contract, baseline, and execution schedules that align with project scope, contractual milestones, procurement strategy, engineering deliverables, and field execution plans.
  • Independently manage scheduling activities for assigned projects, particularly larger, more complex, or higher risk EPC projects where schedule quality, integration, and forecasting are critical.
  • Establish an effective schedule update process with project teams and ensure schedules accurately reflect progress, remaining work, current constraints, resource planning, and forecast completion dates.
  • Perform detailed schedule analysis to identify critical and near critical path impacts, sequencing concerns, float erosion, long lead risks, emerging delays, and opportunities to improve execution.
  • Proactively communicate schedule risks and recommended actions to project leadership, providing clear analysis that supports timely decision making.
  • Lead schedule change evaluation and work with project teams to develop mitigation, acceleration, or recovery plans. Incorporate approved changes in scope, sequencing, and execution strategy into the schedule.
  • Coordinate with procurement, engineering, subcontractors, project management, and field operations to ensure schedules reflect current deliverables, commitments, constraints, and actual project conditions.
  • Prepare schedule reports, narratives, dashboards, presentations, and executive level summaries for internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of scheduling templates, procedures, standards, governance, and repeatable processes, primarily within Primavera P6.
  • Establish consistent expectations for schedule development, maintenance, analysis, reporting, change control, and project team participation across the organization.
  • Serve as a scheduling subject matter expert and provide practical guidance, coaching, and support to project managers, project controls personnel, and operational teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve scheduling tools, data quality, reporting, and integration with broader project controls and project management processes.
  • Help build a scalable scheduling function that provides greater consistency, structure, accountability, and discipline across the organization.
  • Support the future growth of the scheduling team through the development of standard work practices, training materials, onboarding resources, and quality review processes.
  • Demonstrate the leadership capability and organizational perspective required to assume broader responsibility within the scheduling function as the team grows.

Additional Informationย ย ย ย

As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to complete pre-employment screening including professional reference checks and a criminal record check.

Requirements

What We're Looking Forย ย

  • Experience building schedules during preconstruction or bid phase
  • Experience establishing or supporting baseline schedules after project award
  • Experience maintaining logic driven schedules during project execution
  • Advanced Primavera P6 experience
  • Experience supporting complex construction or EPC projects in utilities, industrial, renewables, transmission and distribution, substations, battery storage, or similar infrastructure sectors

Qualificationsย

  • Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field
  • 5+ years of scheduling, planning, or project controls experience within construction, infrastructure, utilities, industrial, or EPC environments
  • Demonstrated experience supporting both preconstruction scheduling and execution phase scheduling
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 required.
  • Strong understanding of CPM scheduling principles, logic ties, critical path analysis, schedule risk, and recovery planning
  • Experience developing templates, standards, or repeatable scheduling processes is considered a strong asset
  • Experience with InEight is considered an asset
  • Certifications such as PMI-SP, PSP, or equivalent are considered an asset

What Will Set You Apartย

  • Experience supporting projects from bid stage through execution
  • Experience in EPC or design build environments where engineering, procurement, and construction must be integrated into one schedule
  • Familiarity with high voltage electrical, substations, transmission and distribution, battery storage, renewables, or similar infrastructure work
  • Ability to build structure, improve templates, and create repeatable scheduling processes, not just maintain schedules
  • Strong judgment, communication, and the ability to work across estimating, engineering, procurement, project management, and field teams
  • Interest in helping shape and strengthen the scheduling function over time

Benefits

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation with weekly payย periods
  • Generous paid time off ย
  • RRSP-DPSP employer matching, increasing with years of serviceย
  • Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, and disability)ย
  • Ongoing training, development, and career advancement opportunities
  • Employee Assistance Program (confidential counselling support)
  • Employee Referral Bonus Programย
