Senior Controls Engineer

Position Overview
The Senior Controls Engineer at Eastern Lift Truck will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing control packages or systems for our conveyor and automated product lines. In this position, you will lead projects that enhance the performance, safety, and efficiency of our automated systems, ensuring they meet industry standards and customer requirements. Your expertise will help guide team members and projects while driving new innovations in our control technology.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of control packages for a variety of systems and automated equipment.
  • Develop and implement control algorithms to optimize performance, safety, and efficiency.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for control system designs, including schematics, software code, and system specifications.
  • Oversee multiple control systems projects from concept through to production, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
  • Coordinate with other engineering teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure integration of control systems.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with control system design and implementation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and engineering teams.
  • Conduct technical reviews and assessments of control system designs and implementations.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation in control systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans for control systems to ensure they meet performance and safety standards.
  • Analyze test data and troubleshoot control system issues to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to ensure product reliability and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in existing control systems and processes.
  • Implement best practices and new methodologies to enhance system performance and efficiency.
  • Gather feedback from customers and field data to drive enhancements in control system design.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software developers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of control systems.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in control system design, including PLCs, SCADA, HMI, and embedded systems.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as C/C++, Python, or similar.
  • Experience with simulation tools and modeling techniques for control system analysis.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations relevant to forklift systems (e.g., ISO, ANSI).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Master's degree or higher is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in control systems engineering, with a strong focus on industrial automation or automotive systems. Experience with forklift or material handling equipment is a plus.
