Sr Client Partner information

What is a Sr Client Partner?

Sr Client Partners are senior-level professionals responsible for managing and growing relationships with key clients in an organization. They serve as the main point of contact between the company and its top clients, ensuring client satisfaction and identifying opportunities for business expansion. Their role often includes strategic planning, overseeing the delivery of services or products, and collaborating with internal teams to meet client needs. Sr Client Partners are expected to have deep industry knowledge, strong communication skills, and a proven track record in client management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sr Client Partner?

To thrive as a Sr Client Partner, you need deep expertise in client relationship management, strategic account planning, and a track record of driving business growth, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. Experience with CRM platforms like Salesforce, data analysis tools, and knowledge of industry-specific technologies are commonly required. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and leadership skills set standout professionals apart in this client-facing role. These abilities are crucial for building long-term client partnerships, delivering tailored solutions, and achieving revenue targets in a competitive market.

How does a Sr Client Partner typically collaborate with internal teams to deliver client solutions?

Sr Client Partners often act as a bridge between clients and internal teams, such as sales, marketing, product, and operations. They regularly participate in cross-functional meetings to align client needs with company capabilities, ensuring that deliverables meet client expectations. Effective communication and negotiation skills are essential, as Sr Client Partners must advocate for client interests while balancing organizational goals. This collaborative approach fosters long-term client relationships and enables the Sr Client Partner to drive growth opportunities for both the client and the company.

About COURIER

COURIER is the fastest growing values-driven local news network in America. Across 20 state newsrooms and a national bureau, we have earned the trust of over 9.5M subscribers and reach more than 150M Americans weekly with factual, compelling, and shareable news and information where they already spend their time online. We deliver original, high-impact, social-first storytelling across platforms to audiences who do not rely on traditional news, from viral social videos to must-read newsletters and podcasts. In a decentralized media environment where local news is increasingly hard to come by, COURIER's network of local coverage gives allies some of the strongest source material for their work while still reaching the critical Americans we serve directly online.

COURIER is seeking a Client Partner who will be responsible for the development and execution of COURIER's sponsorship revenue portfolio, with a focus on advocacy media sales, building advertising and sponsorship partnerships with foundations, agencies, and advocacy associations across our full suite of platforms, including social, digital, and events.

This position is a fully remote, individual contributor role. We are looking for an external-facing and hustle-driven individual who will be responsible for building and scaling sponsorship revenue, and playing a critical role in executing COURIER's annual and strategic revenue goals. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced advocacy sales focused professional who brings keen insight, innovation, and best-in-class practices, and who is energized by being out in market meeting clients face-to-face and representing the COURIER brand, particularly with DC-based agencies.

This role will be reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer, and will partner closely with senior leadership including high exposure with the CEO.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prospect, qualify, and close new advertising opportunities, leading the full sales cycle from initial engagement through contract execution.
  • Own and achieve a defined revenue target, managing key relationships with existing and prospective clients, funders, and advertising partners across the advocacy and progressive issue landscape including foundations, coalitions, advocacy associations, and the agencies that represent them.
  • Develop and execute structured account plans to drive advertiser ROI and long-term revenue growth.
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior-level advertising decision-makers, delivering strategic guidance and actively gathering their feedback to help shape which products and offerings are commercially viable for COURIER to develop in the future.
  • Quantify opportunities through clear, data-driven business cases aligned to advertiser objectives, and identify new growth opportunities to expand existing client partnerships.
  • Maintain rigorous pipeline management and accurate revenue forecasting, developing pitch materials and sponsorship presentations tailored to advocacy goals, and coordinating with ads operations on contracts, vendor forms, and other administrative details needed to move deals forward.
  • Demonstrate leadership and a deep understanding of client business goals and industry trends, staying current on the advocacy, issue-campaign, and foundation funding landscape, and tracking emerging coalitions, priorities, and funding cycles that create new partnership opportunities.
  • Represent COURIER by attending briefings, coalition meetings, conferences, and other advocacy-community touchpoints, with a particular focus on building and deepening relationships with DC agencies.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as editorial, data and tech, product, and design teams, to ensure a cohesive approach to client partnerships and advocacy-focused advertising campaigns.
  • Ensure that all advertising practices comply with legal and ethical standards, and are in line with industry best practices.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Has 5+ years of experience in advocacy media sales
  • Has experience owning revenue targets and closing complex deals.
  • Has strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can operate in ambiguous, fully remote, fast-changing environments.
  • Understands the client's business and priorities to define success metrics and align on partnership goals.

Courier Newsroom offers the following benefits:

  • Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO), 11 paid holidays a year
  • An Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Full suite of health benefits
  • $500 home office reimbursement
  • 401k
  • Flexible working arrangements

Courier Newsroom is an equal opportunity employer. Women, people of color, those with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ community are strongly urged to apply. Applicants shall not be discriminated against because of race, religion, sex, national origin, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, color, marital status, or medical conditions.
