Job description

Senior Move Assistant

Caring Transitions of Rochester

Part-Time  |  Rochester, NY  |  Field-Based  |  Starting at $18/hr

Help a family through one of the biggest transitions of their lives.

When an older adult moves into senior living, it is almost never just about boxes. It is a lifetime of belongings, decisions, and emotions, and the family is often overwhelmed. You are the calm, kind presence that makes it manageable.

As a Senior Move Assistant, you will sit beside clients in their homes and help them sort, pack, and decide what comes with them. Then, on the other end, you will unpack and set up their new home so it feels like theirs from the first night. You are handling their things, but you are really helping them process a chapter ending and a new one beginning. People remember the person who helped them through this. That person will be you.

What you will actually do

  • Work alongside clients and families to sort, pack, and label belongings with patience and care
  • Unpack and resettle the new home so it is fully move-in ready: beds made, kitchen organized, photos hung
  • Bring steadiness and warmth to an emotional day, and know when to listen and when to keep things moving
  • Coordinate with our move manager and the receiving senior living community so nothing falls through the cracks

Want to lead? There's a premium for it.

Not every crew needs a lead, but every crew has one. On days you run the job, you earn an extra $2.50/hr for every hour of that shift.
As a Move Shift Lead you are the point of contact for the client, our manager, and the receiving senior community. You walk the layout and measurements with the client, direct the crew through the day, and make sure the job closes out clean. It is real responsibility, and it's how we find out who is ready for more.
We would rather grow our leaders than hire them. If that's the direction you want to go, say so in your application.

You will thrive here if you

  • Genuinely enjoy older adults and have the patience for an emotional, sometimes slow-moving day
  • Can stay active, on your feet, lifting and carrying boxes across a roughly 6-hour shift
  • Are organized, dependable, and follow through on what you say you will do
  • Want flexible, as-needed part-time work (Monday through Friday business hours, roughly 10 to 20 hours per week)
  • Want more than a shift. You're interested in eventually running jobs, not just working them.

The practical details

Reliable personal transportation and a working smartphone are required. Background check required. Starting pay is $18/hr, plus a $2.50/hr Shift Lead premium on any day you're running the crew.

This is some of the most rewarding work you will ever do, and our teams genuinely enjoy the days together.
