Responsibilities may include developing quality requirements, analyzing supplier performance, and collaborating with both internal teams and external partners to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Supplier Quality Manager (SQM), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Supplier Quality Manager, you typically need expertise in quality management systems, supplier evaluation, and a background in engineering or manufacturing, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with ISO standards, Six Sigma, quality auditing tools, and ERP systems is commonly required. Strong analytical skills, communication, and the ability to build relationships with suppliers are critical soft skills. These competencies ensure product quality, reduce supply chain risks, and foster effective collaboration between suppliers and internal teams.
