Job description

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain MS SQL Server instances across development, test, and production environments.
  • High Availability (HA) & Disaster Recovery (DR): Deploy and monitor SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and failover clustering to ensure 24/7 uptime for rail operations.  
  • Performance Tuning: Troubleshoot blocking, deadlocks, and slow-running T-SQL queries to optimize data retrieval speeds.
  • Backup & Recovery: Implement robust backup strategies and run regular recovery and restore drills to meet strict RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and RTO (Recovery Time Objective) targets.  
  • Security & Compliance: Enforce user access controls, role-based security, and data encryption standards.
  • Automation: Write PowerShell or T-SQL scripts to automate routine maintenance tasks and alerts.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 5 to 8+ years of hands-on MS SQL Server DBA experience in a large enterprise or public sector environment. 
  • Cloud Knowledge: Familiarity with Azure SQL Database or hybrid cloud infrastructure. 
  • Core Skills: Advanced T-SQL, Index tuning, performance monitoring tools, and Windows Server administration.
  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
