Job description

Museum volunteers play a vital role in inspiring and engaging our audiences while also supporting important behind-the-scenes work. They greet and welcome visitors, share information, and assist staff across a wide range of functions.

The International Spy Museum is currently recruiting adult volunteers to join our Guest Services team, with the next training session scheduled for October 2 and 4, 2026.

Guest Services Volunteer

Guest Services Volunteers support the Museum by welcoming visitors, providing orientation, and offering general information throughout the Museumโ€™s lobby and galleries. As part of the Guest Services Department, volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring a positive visitor experience by greeting guests, encouraging exploration of exhibitions, providing wayfinding assistance, and answering questions related to transportation, dining options, and nearby attractions in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities

    • Welcome and assist visitors as they plan and organize their visit
    • Provide wayfinding support in the lobby and galleries
    • Explain and demonstrate RFID technology to guests participating in the Undercover Mission experience
    • Engage visitors in conversation using exhibition content to encourage curiosity and deeper exploration

Requirements

    • Must be 18 years of age or older
    • Completion of a Spy Museum background check
    • Attendance at volunteer orientation session on one of the following dates:
    • Friday, October 2, 2026, from 1:00 PMโ€“5:00 PM
    • Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 1:00 PMโ€“5:00 PM
    • Commitment to a minimum of 8 volunteer hours per month (four twoโ€‘hour shifts) for at least one year
