Skillset Group is seeking a Steel Fabrication Operations Manager located in the Santa Fe Springs, CA area. This individual is responsible for leading the daily operations of a custom steel fabrication department that manufactures highly engineered process equipment for aerospace, defense, semiconductor, chemical, and industrial customers. This role oversees fabrication personnel, production scheduling, quality, safety, and project execution while partnering closely with Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, and Assembly to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on fabrication leader with strong technical expertise, proven leadership experience, and a passion for developing people and driving operational excellence. Steel Fabrication Shop Manager
DIRECT HIRE OPPORTUNITY!!
Salary: $115-155k/yr. + Performance Bonus
Schedule: Monday - Saturday
Expected operating Hours: 50-60 hrs. (depended on workflow)
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in steel fabrication within a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of supervisory or management experience leading fabrication teams.
  • Experience fabricating custom equipment, tanks, skids, process piping, structural steel, or pressure vessels.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and layouts.
  • Extensive knowledge of MIG, TIG, Flux-Core, and structural welding processes.
  • Working knowledge of AWS and ASME fabrication codes and industry standards.
  • Proven experience planning production schedules, coordinating labor, materials, and shop resources.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop fabrication personnel.
  • Experience maintaining high standards for quality, safety, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, and Assembly teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams for reporting and communication.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Committed to delivering complex fabrication projects on schedule and within labor budgets.
