Job description

Groundskeeper for Senior Living Community

Allegria Village is a 35-acre senior living community in Dearborn offering Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing—all within one connected campus.

We are currently seeking a dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Groundskeeper to help maintain the beauty, cleanliness, and safety of our 35-acre campus year-round.

This is a year-round position, providing an opportunity to work outdoors and care for the campus through every season. Unlike many landscaping positions that are seasonal, this role is responsible for maintaining our grounds throughout the spring, summer, fall, and winter—including landscaping, fall clean-up, snow removal, and salting.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, enjoys being outdoors, and understands the importance of maintaining a clean, attractive, and safe environment for our residents, families, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Spring & Summer Groundskeeping

  • Mow and maintain lawns throughout the campus.

  • Trim and maintain trees, shrubs, hedges, and other landscaping.

  • Weed flower beds, landscaped areas, sidewalks, and other outdoor spaces.

  • Water plants, flowers, trees, and landscaping as needed.

  • Maintain the overall appearance and condition of lawns, gardens, walkways, and common outdoor areas.

  • Perform regular grounds inspections and address areas requiring attention.

  • Operate and maintain landscaping equipment, including lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other groundskeeping tools.

  • Remove litter, branches, leaves, and other debris from the property.

  • Assist with planting, seasonal flowers, mulch, and other landscaping projects as needed.

Fall Grounds Maintenance

  • Perform seasonal fall clean-up throughout the campus.

  • Remove and dispose of leaves, branches, and other accumulated debris.

  • Maintain lawns, landscaping, sidewalks, and outdoor areas as the seasons change.

  • Prepare landscaping and grounds for the winter season.

Winter Grounds Maintenance

  • Perform snow and ice removal from sidewalks, entrances, driveways, and other designated areas.

  • Operate snow removal equipment, including snow plows and other applicable equipment.

  • Apply salt and other ice-melting products to sidewalks, roadways, and high-traffic areas as needed.

  • Monitor campus grounds during winter weather and respond to changing conditions to help maintain safe walkways and access for residents, staff, and visitors.

  • Assist with winter weather preparation and clean-up as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine daily rounds of the campus to identify areas that require cleaning, maintenance, or attention.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Properly use, clean, and store landscaping equipment, tools, and supplies.

  • Report damaged trees, landscaping, irrigation, sidewalks, pavement, or other outdoor concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Follow all safety procedures when operating equipment and working around residents, staff, vehicles, and pedestrians.

  • Perform other groundskeeping duties and seasonal projects as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, lawn care, or a related field preferred.

  • Ability to safely operate lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, snow removal equipment, and other groundskeeping tools.

  • Ability to work independently and manage daily tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a well-kept property.

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, cold, and snow.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, standing, and walking for extended periods.

  • Dependable and willing to work as part of a team.

  • Strong communication and time-management skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • At least 1 year of groundskeeping, landscaping, or related experience preferred.

  • Valid driver's license required; must be able to safely operate company vehicles and groundskeeping equipment.

  • Ability to work during inclement weather, including snow and ice events.

  • Ability to pass a background check as a condition of employment.

Join Our Team

If you enjoy working outdoors, take pride in maintaining beautiful and well-kept grounds, and are looking for a year-round position rather than seasonal landscaping work, we'd love to meet you.

At Allegria Village, your work directly contributes to creating a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for the residents who call our community home.
