Seasonal Innkeeper information

What is a seasonal innkeeper?

Seasonal innkeepers are hospitality professionals who manage or assist in running inns, bed and breakfasts, or small lodgings during peak travel seasons. Their responsibilities often include overseeing guest services, handling reservations, managing housekeeping, and sometimes preparing meals. Seasonal innkeepers are typically hired for a set period, such as summer or holiday seasons, to accommodate increased guest demand. This role requires strong customer service skills, flexibility, and the ability to multitask. It’s ideal for individuals who enjoy hospitality work but prefer temporary or cyclical employment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a seasonal innkeeper?

To thrive as a Seasonal Innkeeper, you need strong hospitality management skills, customer service expertise, and basic financial and operations knowledge, often supported by experience in hospitality or tourism. Familiarity with property management systems (PMS), reservation platforms, and point-of-sale software is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability help you create memorable guest experiences and manage seasonal fluctuations. These skills ensure smooth operations, guest satisfaction, and the ability to handle the unique demands of a seasonal hospitality environment.

What are some common challenges faced by seasonal innkeepers and how can they be managed effectively?

Seasonal innkeepers often face challenges such as fluctuating guest volumes, rapidly shifting priorities, and the need to quickly adapt to new teams or environments. Managing guest expectations during peak seasons, maintaining high standards of service, and juggling multiple roles—from front desk duties to minor maintenance—are all part of the job. Effective communication, strong organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving help innkeepers navigate these challenges and ensure guests have a memorable experience.

The Detroit Red Wings are seeking two (2) Seasonal Game Presentation Assistants to play a hands-on role in the ideation, planning, and execution of live entertainment and fan engagement elements for the 2026-27 Season.

This role offers an opportunity to directly contribute to the in-arena experience by supporting production elements and live stage operations across all home games and select external events. The ideal candidates will bring energy, creativity, and attention to detail, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

This role will help deliver a historic, industry-leading entertainment product for one of the NHL's Original Six teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as game night Stage Manager, coordinating entertainment and fan experience elements from pre-game through post-game, ensuring all activations run smoothly and on time.

  • Support entertainment teams such as the Red Patrol, Carhartt Ice Crew, and the Red Wings Original Stix Drumline during auditions, rehearsals and live performances.

  • Help plan and activate theme nights, giveaways, and on-ice/in-bow contests - bringing ideas to life through scripting, logistics, and on-site support.

  • Liaise with per-game talent including the DJ, national anthem performers, organist, and other special guests.

  • Manage backend elements such as props, signage, cue cards, and in-game equipment to ensure proper staging and execution.

  • Assist with the administration and tracking of in-game programs, including the Chevrolet Salute to Service and Detroit Red Wings Foundation messages.

  • Contribute creative ideas for in-game features, fan interactions, and activations that align with the Centennial storytelling and brand elevation.

  • Collaborate across departments including Marketing, Community Relations, Foundation, and Hockey Operations to support coordinated efforts.

  • Support secondary events throughout the season, including community activations, viewing parties, college games, and more.

  • Take part in all other duties as assigned to support the Game Presentation team's overall success.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working toward a bachelor's degree in Marketing, Sports Management, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • Previous experience in sports, live entertainment, or event operations is a strong plus.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and problem-solve under pressure.

  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and communication skills - both verbal and written.

  • Willingness and availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours as needed.

  • Comfortable working in high-energy, high-volume live event environments.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the NHL, Detroit Red Wings brand, or live sports production.

  • A passion for delivering memorable fan experiences.

  • Interest in storytelling and live event production.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent use of visual and auditory focus.

  • Exposure to high noise levels and large crowds.

  • Variable hours, including late nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Physical work including lifting, carrying, and navigating arena spaces.
