What is spring manufacturing?

Spring manufacturing is the process of designing and producing mechanical springs, such as compression, extension, and torsion springs, which are used in a variety of products for energy storage, shock absorption, and force control. This process typically involves selecting suitable materials, coiling wire to precise specifications, heat treatment, and finishing. Spring manufacturers use specialized machinery and quality control techniques to ensure springs meet required tolerances and performance standards for industries like automotive, aerospace, electronics, and industrial equipment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Spring Manufacturing, and why are they important?

To excel in Spring Manufacturing, a strong understanding of mechanical principles, precision measurement, and basic math skills is essential, often supported by a high school diploma or technical training. Familiarity with CNC machines, coiling equipment, and quality control systems, as well as certifications like Certified Manufacturing Technician (CMT), are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure the efficient production of high-quality springs that meet exact specifications and industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced in spring manufacturing roles, and how are they typically addressed?

In spring manufacturing, common challenges include maintaining precise tolerances, ensuring material consistency, and minimizing production defects. Operators and technicians often work closely with quality assurance teams to conduct regular inspections and implement process adjustments as needed. Staying current with advancements in automated machinery and quality control technology can help address these challenges and improve efficiency. Collaboration with engineering and maintenance teams is also essential to resolve equipment issues promptly and uphold product standards.

About the Role:

This is a 100% manufacturing job that involves highly repetitive tasks, critical to our production process. You will:

  • Fill machine hoppers by hand: placing springs into holes for grinders and set-out machines.
  • Package springs: weigh and fill boxes for stock or customer orders.
  • Perform basic machine-side support activities like sorting, deburring, and minor secondary forming.

  • Follow simple, clear instructions and work independently after training.
  • Housekeeping tasks to keep the work area clean and safe.

This is a physically active role, best suited for individuals who enjoy a simple, steady work routine and can maintain focus and quality over repetitive tasks.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently execute assigned production tasks, including grinding, set-out, passivation, secondary forming of parts, color coding, batch stress relief, shot blast/peening, sorting, deburring, and packing at the machine.
  • Execute the post-primary task as assigned and directed by the Production Team Area Lead and/or Production Team Leader.
  • Ensure all products meet high standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Execute lot separation.
  • Notify the Production Team Area Lead or Production Team Leader when conditions with the parts and/or the resource change.
  • Perform area housekeeping once the operation is complete.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills required, including Microsoft Office, email composition and other communication/collaborative tools.

Education and Experience:

  • Over 3 months in a manufacturing environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Benefits:

Benefits include health, dental & life insurance, available the first of the month following date of hire. 401K (with match) is available January 1st or July 1st after 6 months of service. Paid Time Off (PTO) is awarded upon hire and on a quarterly basis. We offer opportunities for professional development and advancement, a dynamic and supportive work environment with the chance to be part of a growing company committed to quality and sustainability.
