As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within Commercial and Investment Bank Payments & Investigations team, you will lead a technical area and drive impact across teams, technologies, and projects. You will leverage your deep expertise in software, applications, technical processes, and product management to deliver multiple complex projects and initiatives, serving as a primary decision maker and a driver of innovation and solution delivery.

Job responsibilities

  • Partners with product and business groups to drive participation, plans, timelines, dependencies, and solutions to ensure successful delivery and desired outcomes
  • Engages with business stakeholders to break down complex and ambiguous problems into technical specifications for engineering teams to implement under your guidance
  • Delivers and owns end-to-end, cutting-edge low latency solutions leveraging the latest technologies and best industry practices
  • Champions engineering practices; improves the effectiveness of engineering teams through coaching, mentoring, and resolution of impediments
  • Partners with leadership to drive Non Functional Requirements, modernization initiatives, and controls
  • Influences peer leaders and senior stakeholders across business, product, and technology teams
  • Leads and participates in regular technical meetings, ensuring architectural decisions align with broader organizational goals and strategy
  • Drives the adoption of AWS/internal cloud technologies, enablement tools, and processes for engineering teams as part of integration
  • Creates and maintains detailed technology roadmaps with corresponding work streams and stakeholders, ensuring all solutions and requirements are clearly understood and communicated
  • Carries governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success such as cost of ownership, maintainability, and portfolio operations

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 13+ years applied experience, including 5+ years leading technologists to manage, anticipate, and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
  • Extensive hands-on experience designing and building full stack cloud native distributed systems with high availability, fault-tolerance, and scalability using Java, Spring, Python, or Camunda
  • Experience handling large volumes of data with databases such as PostgreSQL
  • Experience in large-scale AI initiatives focused on reducing TCO and improving productivity
  • Understanding and experience with cloud technologies, software engineering/product engineering methods, and technology best practices
  • Demonstrated experience influencing across highly matrixed, complex organizations and delivering value at scale
  • Experience managing competing requirements to align product prioritization with technical capacity and feasibility, balancing solution priorities between long-term technical roadmap and short-term execution needs
  • Ability to understand and convey programming models, technologies, systems, and APIs relevant for stakeholders
  • Experience working with product teams to ensure understanding and alignment of requirements and technical solutions
  • Curious and comfortable exploring new domains, considering both technology and product perspectives
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing direction and establish patterns rapidly

  • Experience working in payments or investigations domain
