Job description

Title: Mill Manager Location: Loudon, TN Duration: Fulltime Permanent Role Job Description:
  • Supervise Body Raw Materials Receiving and Storage area, Milling and Spray Drying operations including Raw Materials Supply, Body Coloration and Process Control. Supervises Body Prep department workflow to meet Plant Production Schedule. Responsible for the Preventive and Corrective maintenance of all Body Prep Department equipment. Also, involved in the selection and installation of new equipment. Manages workforce to ensure labor efficiency, achieve productivity levels and department outputs. When there are defects or problems related to the body, the supervisor participates in the analysis and solution of the problem. Responsible to ensure proper Raw Materials levels are met all time. Responsible for executing industrial tests to develop or improve the characteristics of the body. Responsible for evaluation of department procedures for possible cost reduction and increased efficiency. Developing Standard Operating Procedures and training all the associates. Also supervises and leads the work activities of up to 12 employees (24 hours X 5 days).
Experience Requirements:
  • Must have at least 5+ years of experience in a ball mill, rod mill, SAG mill or similar aggregate milling environment. Experience with ceramic tile manufacturing industry preferred.
Needed Experience/Knowledge :
  • Inventory control, ordering and receiving the raw materials using the AS400/SAP or similar software. Must possess direct experience with weighing and batching system including calibration of the belts/scale under the silos, automated recipes changes, update, new formula, etc.
  • For the Continuous Mill, experience of the daily operations such as startup, regular working conditions, understanding of the alarms and relative adjustments, and shutdown of the equipment. Must possess experience in ensuring compliance to the defined standards and ranges (residue, density and viscosity) and must be capable to adjust the working conditions of the equipment (speed and feeding rate of the mill and body deflocculant percentage variation) when the material outputs are out of specifications. Must have experience in supervising the Quality Control checks, procedures, and ensure their execution in the proper way.
  • For the Spray Dryer, must have direct experience with regulating PPB-308 pumps (pumps for slurry) and provide periodically maintenance. Must have experience of the daily operations such as startup, regular working conditions, understanding of the alarms and relative adjustments, and shutdown of the equipment including the automated washing system. Must possess experience in ensuring compliance to the defined standards and ranges (moisture, particle size distribution analysis) and must be capable to adjust the working conditions of the equipment (increasing or decreasing the pressure of the slip through the PPB pumps or increasing or decreasing the inside temperature or changing the internal atmosphere pressure inside the Spray Dryer) when the material outputs are out of specifications. Must have experience in supervising the Quality Control checks, procedures, and ensure their execution in the proper way.
  • For the Powder Storage & Supply to the Press Department, we must have experience in a plant managing at least 50 silos. Must possess experience of the daily operations of the regular working conditions, understanding of the alarms and capable of making the relative adjustments. When producing colored body, must possess direct experience with the batching system, including calibration of the belts/scale under the silos, be capable to change the recipes and experience with the software of "auto-washing".
  • Must have experience and technical knowledge of the ceramic materials (Rheology of the clays, chemical-physical reaction during the firing, shrinkage, color development etc.) and of the thermo-dynamic as far concerns the operation of the Spray Dryer (air combustion temperature, air moisture extraction, etc.). Must have experience in oversized gas burners, how they work, how to control the gas-air mixing, how to do the purging procedure and ensure the Preventive and Corrective maintenance.
Qualifications:
  • A.S. or B.S. degree in related field preferred. (High School or GED diploma required)
  • Minimum 5 years' related experience required; Supervisory/management experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with developing, implementing, and documenting procedures.
  • Must be computer proficient using Microsoft Office applications. Must be proficient with UPS/FedEx on-line software.
  • PC Skills proficient to input data as required. Familiar with Excel, Word, and AS/A400 and/or SAP. Familiarity with automated scanning systems, etc.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a customer-focused mindset, capable of addressing shipment errors and inventory discrepancies swiftly and effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively across Sales reps, Customer Success, and Warehouse teams.
  • Proven ability to anticipate operational bottlenecks and proactively implement solutions that optimize workflow and customer satisfaction
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds consistently with heavier weights than necessary at times.
