What is a Spravato nurse?

Spravato nurses are registered nurses who are specially trained to administer Spravato (esketamine) nasal spray to patients with treatment-resistant depression. They monitor patients before, during, and after each treatment session to ensure safety, manage potential side effects, and provide support throughout the process. These nurses play a crucial role in educating patients about the medication, adhering to safety protocols, and collaborating with other healthcare providers as part of a comprehensive mental health care team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Spravato nurse, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Spravato Nurse, you need a valid RN license, experience in psychiatric or infusion nursing, and knowledge of Spravato (esketamine) administration protocols. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR), vital sign monitoring devices, and adverse event reporting systems is essential. Compassion, strong patient observation skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help ensure patient safety during monitoring periods. These skills are vital for effectively managing complex patient needs and maintaining safety standards during Spravato treatments.

What are some common challenges Spravato nurses face when administering treatment, and how can they be managed?

Spravato Nurses often encounter challenges such as monitoring patients for potential side effects like dissociation or elevated blood pressure during and after treatment sessions. Managing these challenges requires strong clinical observation skills, clear communication with patients, and close collaboration with prescribing clinicians. Nurses must also provide emotional reassurance and education to patients who may feel anxious about the treatment. Working in a multidisciplinary team helps ensure comprehensive care and swift response to any adverse events.

Greater Houston Psychiatric Associates, PLLC is on the lookout for someone who’s not afraid of CPT codes, insurance claims, or the occasional mysterious denial that makes you question reality.

THIS IS AN ENTRY LEVEL POSITION, perfect for someone who:
- Has a high school diploma and a love for numbers, charts, and alphabetized filing systems.
- Can decode ICD-10 mental health codes like it’s their second language.
- Enjoys chasing down insurance companies (politely, of course).

- Has the magical ability to sit for 90% of the day and still get things done.

We’re looking for someone who’s detail-oriented, organized, and ideally fun to be around—because we believe billing can be serious and hilarious (especially when the fax machine decides to jam for no reason).
