Purpose of Position:
Supports Store Management, Asset Protection, and the Corporate Firearms Compliance team by ensuring store-level adherence to all federal, state, and local firearm regulations, as well as company operational and employment compliance standards. The Store Compliance Specialist safeguards Sportsman's Warehouse's Federal Firearms License (FFL) and State License(s) through accurate recordkeeping, responsible handling, and vigilant process control.
In addition, the role supports operational compliance related to timekeeping, scheduling, overtime management, and other store accountability areas-helping ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with company policies and legal requirements.
This position plays a critical part in protecting both the company's legal standing and its reputation for integrity, safety, and operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
An individual must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Firearms / ATF Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with ATF regulations, state firearm laws, and company firearm policies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Acquisition & Disposition (A&D) records, 4473 forms, and transfer documentation.
  • Ensure Federal and/or state paperwork is scanned and uploaded per policy.
  • Audit and reconcile firearm inventory daily; immediately report any discrepancies or missing firearms.
  • Verify accuracy and completion of all firearm sales transactions prior to final transfer.
  • Monitor NICS background checks, delays, and denials per ATF guidance.
  • Partner with store management and the Corporate Compliance team to prepare for and respond to ATF and/or state inspections.
  • Train and coach Outfitters on firearm transfer procedures, recordkeeping, and compliance expectations.
  • Support secure firearm storage and handling consistent with company, State and ATF standards.

Operational Compliance
  • Support Store Manager and Company/SSC leadership in additional compliance related projects, initiatives, and processes as requested.
  • Track and report recurring compliance exceptions or risk trends to store management.
  • Assist with internal audits, training records, postings, and other store documentation requirements as requested by Compliance leadership.
  • Support store compliance with required training completions, onboarding checklists, and operational policy adherence.

General
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion in handling any and all sensitive employee and compliance information.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, ethics, and safety across all store departments.
  • Serve as a key point of contact between the store, corporate compliance, and asset protection teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
