Job description

Minor League Nutrition Coordinator

The Tampa Bay Rays are seeking a Minor League Nutrition Coordinator to add to our Player Development team. This role is responsible for oversight of all Minor League affiliates and seasonal Registered Dietitians (RD) at those affiliates, ensuring the Rays' nutrition services and philosophies are implemented throughout the organization. This position is based in Durham, NC during the season to provide direct support to the Rays' AAA affiliate during all home games. Additionally, the Nutrition Coordinator will be responsible for handling oversight at other affiliates while the team is on the road. While Durham is the preferred homebase of the role in-season, permanent relocation to the area is not a requirement. As such, the role is eligible for in-season housing assistance. The role is also expected to report to Port Charlotte, FL for Spring Training.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate individualized nutrition plans with affiliate RDs and other departments.
  • Evaluate lab values and recommend supplementation per guidelines and protocols and with collaboration with medical staff.
  • Conduct and interpret body composition assessments; provide evidence-based recommendations.
  • Lead hydration and sweat testing; deliver hydration and recovery strategies.
  • Collaborate on sleep-related initiatives for players.
  • Maintain documentation of nutrition assessments and services.
  • Share pertinent nutrition updates with relevant staff.
  • Supervise minor league nutrition staff through regular communication, education, and site/virtual visits.
  • Work with Major League Dietitian to organize continuing education via literature review presentations.
  • Coordinate and lead interviews and hiring for seasonal RD roles.
  • Manage AAA nutrition logistics for home and away series, including menu planning, meal/snack procurement, and vendor coordination.
  • Oversee AAA meal budget: plan, forecast, purchase, and track expenses.
  • Develop annual MiLB nutrition budgets for affiliates and the complex (catering, snacks, supplements).
  • Support food service planning for offseason camps and spring training.
  • Maintain effective communication with Major League Dietitian and relevant departments (S&C, Performance Science, Medical).
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned by the Major League Dietitian.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in nutritional sciences, sports nutrition or related field preferred
  • Registered Dietitian (RD)
  • Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) preferred
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish preferred
  • ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification preferred
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and use good judgment at all times
  • Ability to work a non-standard work week and travel extensively
  • Experience managing other individuals preferred
  • Experience with budget management preferred
  • Experience with foodservice and catering management preferred
