Position Overview

The Ontario Reign Performance Dietitian plays a vital role in providing comprehensive nutrition support for the Reign Hockey Team. The dietitian will work collaboratively with the Reign sports performance and coaching staffs in providing food service support, medical nutrition therapy, performance nutrition expertise and team nutrition education to promote optimized performance, recovery, injury management, physical development, health and wellness, and career longevity. The role will also work closely with the hockey development staff and provide nutrition support to draftees and rising players in the organization. This is a full-time position that requires evening and weekend work as well as some travel during the regular and post-season. The Ontario Reign Performance Dietitian will report to the Reign General Manager and the Los Angeles Kings Performance Dietitian.

Primary Responsibilities Food Service
  • Oversee all team meal planning, catering and travel nutrition
  • Develop performance nutrition menus for in-house, arena, and road meals (hotels, restaurants, catering, practice facilities, etc.)
  • Maintain detailed and accurate logs of all nutrition
  • Collaborate with LA Kings Performance Dietitian and in-house chefs on monthly performance menus.
Medical Nutrition Therapy
  • Conduct and document comprehensive nutrition assessments for athletes and draftees
  • Review pertinent blood labs and provide appropriate nutrition interventions
  • Provide appropriate nutrition support for those with various medical conditions, allergies and intolerances related to food and nutrition.
Performance Nutrition
  • Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for competition, recovery, energy balance, hydration, weight management, body composition, immunity, travel, disordered eating behaviors, and relevant supplementation
  • Maintain inventory of all performance nutrition foods and supplements in accordance with NSF Certified for Sport and Informed Sport guidelines
  • Prepare comprehensive player health updates for monthly performance team meetings
  • Collect player weights and assess trends over time
  • Provide injury recovery/surgery nutrition support
  • Conduct DXA and sweat tests as needed over the course of the season
  • Coordinate all nutrition planning and programming for Development Camp and Rookie Tournament
  • Effectively communicate and work collaboratively with different departments within Reign hockey operations--coaching staff, GM, strength and conditioning coach, athletic trainers, sport psychologist, physical therapists, massage therapists and development staff
  • Establish good rapport and connection with players and staff
Nutrition Education
  • Translate latest scientific research into practical
  • Create monthly nutrition education teaching opportunities including cooking demonstrations, grocery store tours, food highlights, infographic creation,
Qualifications Required
  • Active Registered Dietitian credential through CDR
  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition science or related field
  • Previous experience working with elite athletes in the professional, collegiate or international settings
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work non-standard hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and throughout team travel
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, lift and move inventory up to 50
Preferred
  • Experience supporting ice hockey athletes
  • Master's degree in nutrition science or a related field

Payscale: $79,000

Bonus: This position is eligible for a bonus under the current bonus plan requirements.
