Job description

Good4Utah (KTVX/KUCW, the ABC/CW affiliates in Salt Lake City, UT) is seeking a solid Multi-Media Journalist who lives sports. We need a go getter in our Sports Department who can do it all. From Anchoring to Reporting on some days, to shooting and MMJ-ing on others. This person needs to be versatile and prepared for anything. We have three professional teams, six college teams and a slew of high school sports that we cover every week, all in Utah. The Salt Lake market covers the entire state, plus parts of Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada. Our Southern Utah bureau in St. George includes our partner Black Desert Golf Resort, which hosts the PGA there each October.

You must love and live sports. Our Sports Department is front and center in our daily news coverage, and now with our CTV channel, we do more sports than ever before. This person must be able to shoot, write and edit, as well as be comfortable with live shots and anchoring from the desk. The position comes with two days off per week, but may be different each week, or oftentimes split by a working day. You will have your own set of equipment, lights, laptop and a car.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports sports stories for broadcast
  • Writes digital sports stories for ABC4's web site
  • Produces content for CTV, our digital platform
  • Plans and gathers interviews, understanding the importance of good interviews for sports content
  • Determines a story's emphasis, length, format and organizes material accordingly
  • Pitches stories to sports management that are relevant to our local community
  • Shoots and edits sporting events for both TV and digital
  • Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

  • A deep and comprehensive knowledge of all sports. From high school to college, professional sports to Olympics. You must know and love both men's and women's athletics
  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
  • Solid on-air presence
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, scanners and other office equipment
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Flexibility to work any shift

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • In addition, must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and can handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
