JOB SUMMARY: The Sportsplex Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Cape Girardeau Sportsplex ensuring the smooth running of events and tournaments, managing staff, ensuring a high standard of facility cleanliness and providing excellent customer service to all users.ย  This role requires a strong leadership presence, excellent organizational skills and a passion for sports and recreation.ย  The Manager will provide high-level administrative support with project coordination and management.ย ย 
MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Develops a strong customer service, recruitment and contract program for facility usage that generates out of town bookings for tournaments and all nature of events suitable to the facility, which could include but not limited to: Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Baseball, Flag Football, Cheerleading, Dance, and various other events.ย ย 
  • Oversees the coordination of local and regional leagues, individual and team sports training programs, other sports and recreation related programs and events as appropriate and in coordination with other Parks and Recreation programs and events.
  • Directs and performs efficient facility operations management including, concessions/food and beverage service, merchandising, event set up/takedown, scheduling staff and facility maintenance operations. Provides for the safety and enjoyment of all users and patrons.
  • Hires, trains and supervises facility staff.ย  Provides ongoing support, feedback and evaluations to staff members.
  • Plans, develops and administers facility financial responsibilities including budgeting for revenue and expenditures; executes and oversees equipment bidding, sponsorship procurement, and productivity analysis and oversees division budgets and payrolls.ย  Ensures efficient use of resources and meeting financial goals.
  • Plans and oversees the development of capital improvements projects for the facility that range in scope from minor to major facility projects, preventative maintenance, renovations or repairs.ย  Ensures the facility is always in excellent condition and safe for patrons and staff.
  • Collaborates with the marketing team to promote the facility and its services including designing and composing facility marketing collateral, website, newsletters, program guides, facility brochures and promotional packets; oversees the development of flyers, promotional items and coordination of social media activities.
  • Oversees administrative projects assigned by the Department Director, Division Manager and other city officials.ย  Prepares reports and coordinates projects for Advisory Board, sub-committees, sports leagues, and community groups.
  • Develops and implements customer service strategies that enhance user satisfaction and retention.ย 
  • Maintains accurate records of attendance, incidents, maintenance schedules and financial transactions.
  • Takes the lead or provides assistance on major department and foundation initiatives including but not limited to special events, programs, sponsorship development, budget analytics and staff development programs.ย 
  • Oversees and supports special projects including coordinating resources, managing time lines and provides detailed follow-up.
  • Plans, develops, and recommends long-range plans for facilities, programs, and the department.
  • Reviews, revises, and recommends facility and department policies and procedures.ย  Serves on citywide employee committees, taskforces, and teams when necessary or requested.
  • Respond to after-hours calls as needed.ย  (On 24 hour call.)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
  • Experience and knowledge of facility management procedures and systems, recreational and competitive sports, rules and governing bodies.
  • Experience and knowledge of contract development, negotiations and management.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Experience and knowledge of budgeting, accounting practices and financial management.
  • Knowledge of health department/food and beverage standards. Knowledge of regulations set forth by the Department of Liquor Control.
  • Knowledge of facility maintenance procedures and systems.
  • Knowledge of BOCA codes and ADA rules and regulations, Child Labor Laws.
  • Knowledge of fire codes, knowledge of risk management practices.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • Skill in the operation of computers and various software programs, skill in operation of standard office equipment.ย  ย ย 
  • Skill in customer/client services, marketing, promotions, public speaking, oral and written communication.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making capabilities.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of managing projects and facilities demonstrating attention to detail and high-level organizational skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in sports management, recreation or related field with 3 - 5ย years of related experience.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Salary per yearย $53,507, plus a generous benefit package.

  • Bi-weekly pay periods.
  • Thirteenย paid holidays per year.
  • 96 hours of vacation - accrued throughout the year.
  • 96 hours of sick leave - accrued throughout the year.
  • 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
  • City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance - Employee only.
  • City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
  • Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee's expense.
  • Optional vision insurance purchased at employee's expense.
  • Voluntary deferred compensation plan - not matched by the City.

  • Total compensation value (Salaryย plus benefits value) for this position is $76,083ย yearly.
