Job description

The Sports Coordinator supports the planning, organization, and execution of all youth and adult sports programs at the YMCA. This role ensures a high-quality participant experience through strong program delivery, volunteer/coach management, and operational excellence. The Sports Coordinator plays a key role in driving program growth, enhancing member engagement, and fostering an inclusive and positive sports culture aligned with the YMCA’s mission and core values.

  • Assist the Sports Director in planning, implementing, and evaluating sports programs, leagues, clinics, camps, and special events.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteer coaches, referees, and program staff.
  • Provide on-site leadership during games, practices, and program events; ensure safe and organized play environments.
  • Deliver hands-on coaching and support, emphasizing sportsmanship, skill development, and character building.
  • Maintain clear and positive communication with participants, parents, coaches, and visitors.
  • Assist in developing league schedules, practice plans, rosters, and program materials.
  • Support program marketing, outreach, and registration efforts to grow participation.
  • Monitor and maintain sports facilities, fields, courts, and equipment; ensure spaces are clean, safe, and properly set for programs.
  • Enforce program rules, policies, and safety standards; follow YMCA risk management procedures.
  • Help track program metrics, attendance, evaluations, and operational documentation.
  • Uphold YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Inclusion in all interactions and program delivery.
  • Represent the YMCA in a positive and professional manner within the community.

      Job Requirements

To be successful, the candidate must meet some education, training and experience requirements and must be able to demonstrate some critical knowledge, skills, and physical abilities.

                         Education, Training and Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Education, or related field preferred.
  • Must have knowledge in ALL sports especially Soccer.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a 14-passenger vehicle.
  • Experience working in youth sports, coaching, officiating, or recreation programming.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to multitask and problem-solve.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to lead and inspire youth, volunteers, and staff.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain (YMCA may assist).
  • Must be available evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift sports equipment and actively participate in sports environments.
