Position Description

The School of Business and Leadership at Columbia College invites applications for adjunct instructors in Global Sports Business and Leadership. Preferred applicants will have a masterโ€™s degree in Sport Management, Global Sports Business and Leadership, Business Administration, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution with significant professional experience. The individual holding this position will be responsible primarily for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in global sports business and leadership.ย

This role presents a valuable opportunity to actively contribute to the continued development of a reimagined School of Business and Leadership and the strategic expansion of its undergraduate and graduate programs. Located in Columbia, South Carolina, the School currently serves approximately 550 students engaged in learning and research across multiple instructional modalities. With strong industry partnerships and a longstanding commitment to student success, the School is well positioned for growth and innovation as it seeks to expand its reach within the service area and beyond.

Responsibilities
ย 

The ideal candidate will:

  1. Teach and assess online and/or in-seat courses in both the GSBL core and the Business core.
  2. Commit to deliver stimulating and effective outcomes-based learning to a culturally and economically diverse population of students by integrating classroom, field-based, distance learning, and assessment.
  3. Develop, in collaboration with the GSBL Chair, faculty and Dean, curricula and pedagogical approaches for the GSBL program and its growth trajectory.
  4. Work cooperatively with multiple stakeholders including regional, national, and global sports industry personnel, faculty, staff, and students.
  5. Actively engage with the global sports business and leadership industry, government and non-profit communities and other stakeholders; a professional network is critical.
  6. Render other School and College duties as may be assigned consonant with the usual expectations of this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Masterโ€™s degree in Sport Management, Global Sports Business and Leadership, Business Administration, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization. The candidate will also show a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, service, and professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate will need the following:

  1. Preferred applicants will have a terminal degree in Sport Management, Global Sports Business and Leadership, Business Administration, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution.ย 
  2. Significant professional experience working in the sports industry; preferably including leadership.
  3. Ability to teach effectively in a wide range of global sports operations and leadership courses.
  4. Passionate about teaching, preferably evidenced by good student evaluations and peer assessments; must be able to demonstrate teaching capabilities.
  5. Candidates must be proficient using simulations and a wide variety of teaching modalities including face-to-face; synchronous and asynchronous on-line; and hybrid.
  6. Interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues are essential.
  7. Experience working effectively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community and business community.
  8. Proven ability to work well with a broad range of stakeholders.
  9. Involvement with community engaged learning preferred.
  10. Success in developing cooperative industry programs/initiatives, and evidence of continuing involvement with local, national and/or globally relevant industries is preferred.
  11. Demonstrated leadership skills in professional or academic areas are desirable.
  12. Experience with study abroad programs, project-based learning, and service-learning are highly desirable.
