Job description

We are seekinga SPORTING SUPPORT ASSOCIATE to join the Orvis Team! This is an on-site position at our Sandanona facility in Millbrook, NY.
The Sandanona Sporting Support Associate is one of the cultural leaders of the Sandanona team, responsible for achieving sales goals, customer satisfaction, and profitability growth as well as understanding, practicing, and being a strong proponent of the Orvis brand and the company culture. The Sporting Support Associate is a professional role model in attitude and appearance, skilled in the art of communication and customer service, who can teach these skills to the team and ultimately lead by example.

Position Interfaces:
This position reports directly to the Upland and Events Managers. The Position will also interface daily with Retail/Office Manager, guides, trappers, instructors, front desk staff, and retail associates.
Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining the customer service levels on all hunting and shooting activities
  • Support and Assist in the Upland Bird and Sporting Clays Responsibilities including but not limited to:
  • Bird Processing
  • Grounds keeping and maintenance (lawns, ponds, kennels, course, buildings, equipment, etc.)
  • Clays Course support - help with stocking, upkeep, tournaments and any other assistance and maintenance necessary.
  • Help to maintain bird inventory - feeding, watering, pen maintenance
  • Receive bird orders, feed deliveries, etc.
  • Bird pen maintenance
  • Trapper for clays when needed
  • Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of dog kennels- cleaning, maintenance, repairs, feeding dogs, etc.
  • Assisting in all facets of the upland and clay membership activities
  • Help to maintain all work vehicles
  • Help support all other departments at Sandanona as necessary with a strong tie to Upland and Sporting Clays.
Competencies and Requirements:
  • Knowledge of shooting sports
  • Physical strength for hard outdoor work
  • Ability to communicate openly and actively listen
  • Fit and able to perform all physical activities
  • Experience adapting to last minute changes and bridging gaps between various departments
  • Knowledge of operating safely: lawn mowers, tractors, and other farming equipment
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility in scheduled work days to coincide with club activities - must be available to work weekends
  • Strong customer service background
  • Some computer skills
  • Obtain a Hunting Dog to become a hunting guide (future growth)
  • Attend Orvis Wingshooting and Fishing Schools to build knowledge and assist in product sales.
